The industry standard way to format a manuscript.

I've been told to use fonts such as Times New Roman as opposed to Courier in my manuscripts. I've also been told not to indent the first line of every new paragraph. But other than that, good stuff. I guess, as the author said, there are some preferences that differ from publisher to publisher.

Is there hope for this 78 year old woman who has been writing since I was 12 without any of the new inventions, the bird things and facebook.  I have a land line only and a computer. I  dont' have the resources for anything else. As a teen I wrote poetry, and gradually built up a stack of short stories, not knowing what to do with them. I just finished a cozy Christian mystery (300 pages) and I'm about a third of the way through a history of paganism as opposed to the Bible. I have a number of short stories, many humorous, two children's stories, one with my own illustrations, three stories were accepted in Erma Bombeck's workshop. My goal, just suggested to me by another writer is to publish the short stories as a collection. Can I get into the publishing world without the mechanical devices that everyone has? Dickens and Scott Fitzgerald did it.

I'm so glad I found this website. I've been reading everything connected with it.
