Book Promo Ideas #1,009,259: Pre-order, Get Valentine’s Sext From Author

Would you like a sext from this man?

Publishers and authors are all looking for new ways to promote their books these days and, I don’t know about you, but it’s getting ridiculous interesting out there. Author Sam Pink has a new book coming out on Valentine’s Day and has decided to promote it via the medium of sexting. (You know, that’s what it’s called when you send a dirty text message to your lover, particularly if you’re famous and it makes all the headlines.)

Pink, described by many as a cult author with a very low profile on the interwebs, seems to have fallen into writing the way royals kind of ‘fall’ into being in line for the crown, often getting his work published in spite of himself. Called Rontel, his new book features a narrator who

… is an unnamed man for whom life is a “pile of things” that refuses to work together; a man whose underlying problem is that adulthood arrived without ceremony or certification. The novel is unsettling (often hysterically so), and it would be easy to call it “gritty” or “raw,” but really it’s just honest. In Rontel, we begin to recognize ourselves in a man who cannot relate to others, we realize that we all deserve to be exiled for the thoughts we’ve thought, the things we’ve nearly done.

I don’t know, I haven’t read any of his previous work, but there is something intriguing about someone who doesn’t play the internet game in this day and age. Saying that, I don’t particularly feel the need to get a sext from him on Valentine’s — it’s not going to get me to order his book… What about you?

You can read an excerpt from Rontel at Recommended Reading.

I prefer imagining Sam Pink as a completely mangled-looking (perhaps even deformed at birth) dude in his mid-to-late fifties.
