I'll be self-serving for a moment.

Please check out my latest workshop submission, Trickster, and throw your feedback my way.  It's my battle submission against Sound.  Also, review Sound's story, A God.  I like to think that both of them are a lot of fun.

Also, please go vote on the Battle!

Thank you!

I've posted the second draft of Petra in the workshop. Please go check it out and let me know what you think.  I'd really like the opinions of those who reviewed it the first go around: Sean of the Dead, Jonathan Riley, BryanHowie, Voodoo_em, Tophertine, RoarinJen, and RightCharlee, as I think since they read the first draft they would give me some great feedback on it's progress.

Of course, I'd like other's opinions too.

Thanks!

I know it's WAR but just wanted to let y'all know that I revised "The Brightest Star" based on many of the comments I received. I submitted it as a class assignment today and got reamed by the instructor so I wonder if perhaps the revision was a massive fail.

J.R., Hector Acosta, J.Y., Brad, Sean, Cschultz81, Otis, Sound, and Dino all gave killer feedback last time. Take a look if you get a chance. No hurry. About 3000 words

@Emma, I haven't gotten a chance to read the longer version yet. I have also been meaning to read your other submissions. Been so busy. On the plus side I will be off work thursday and friday so if I finish my story early I plan on reading some workshop submissions. If I don't finish early I thing I can find time this weekend hopefully before the stories go up becuase I will be swamped once the polls start to appear.

Ahti Ahde's picture

My debut still has no reviews! I have some other short stories coming up/ready waiting for submission, and they are of gem quality ;) BUT you won't get any, until you've reviewed my first child :P

Naw, seriously though, it would be nice to hear your ideas about it, not loving it any more, re-wrote it too many times, it became the story that held me back, now I just submitted it, and I just want the reviews so I can either bury it alive or resurrect it later if I feel like it.

It's unfortunately 6,500 words, and I can't slice it to reasonable pieces. The story has shades of rock oriented lifestyle, maybe a sligth of decadence, failures in romance, trying to forget, failing life and other similar themes. Yes, it has the newbie flaw, of having too many things going on in one story, but yeah, don't know what to take off... oh just read it already! Hrm.  That long of a submission is going to be a tough cookie.  I'd love to help out, but it'll be a long and slow process.  If you don't mind waiting a week (round about) I could give it a read over.

Oh, I have a story up in the workshop.  It's short (1,400 words).  I know it's WAR time, so the reviews will be slowed down a lot, but if anyone has extra time, any review is appreciated.  It's got big flaws, so have fun!

bryanhowie's picture

It's unfortunately 6,500 words, and I can't slice it to reasonable pieces.

Slice it up into unreasonable pieces then.  It's WAR time and most of the best reviewers are busy working.  If you tell us in the Author's Statement (or whatever that is called) that this is just the first 1500-2000 words, we'll work with it in that manner.  We're not animals.

Except for Averydoll.  She's a fox.

OtisTheBulldog's picture

I have some reading to do in the workshop as well. I'm brutally behind on my NaNo project and I'm in WAR - but I intend on breaking some of that up with workshops. JR - I owe you a read. Emma - I'm going to reread your draft. Howie - I'm going to get into yours. Ahti - that is a little long for our workshops (a few thousand words is tough to get a lot of comments). I'm guessing you don't have enough points at the time to break it up into more digestive pieces. However, I'm going to try my best to get to yours as well and get you some feedback. It might take me a little while with a lot going on with my writing and personal life.

But welcome to LitReactor!

Howie- I DL'ed your story and plan to read it on the iPad in bed tonight. Had a lot of critiques to do for class today.

Ahti- I'll try. I'm intrigued but damn if it's not a long submission for me right now. If you can wait I will get to it (eventually). Usually I'm down for reading something a bit longer but I'm currently committed to two simultaneous beta reads and taking a class on-site.

Pleasure reading? What's that? I have 2 days to finish 280 pages of my Echols biography before it's due back at the library, where 300 people are waiting for it.

WARNING! I don't want any more reviews for the Cheap Dreams short story. The thing is, it was holding me back as a writer, killed all the joy, and I just wanted it ready. And I lost my critical perspective pretty much completely. It was a tired submission.

I am working on four short stories now, which will be better, slimmer and will portray me as a writer much better. The first one is already on it's first draft and it goes by the name 'Trap of Beauty'.

Thank you everyone, and I hope I haven't wasted anyone's time! I'll also PM everyone that promised to read the Cheap.
