Though, they are cool too. With a name like Charles its odd to seperate yourself from the pack but I would like to do that. I love writing and I've finally gotten around to taking my writing seriously. I've been browsing this site all day and finally my coffee is wearing off. Before I crash completely, here I am.

I'm doing good. I think there's room for a couple of us. If a third pops up though, all bets are off. So from one Charles to another, do you ever feel weird saying your own name. I like it well enough but I've always thought it rolls off the tongue kind of awkardly.

i was always chuck, before i was a writer. being chuck king doesnt roll off the tongue the way charles does, yeah?

i met chuck palahniuk when i was chuck, and he said he almost wrote to chuck palahniuk in my book because when he starts writing chuck, he just finishes his signature.

Touche Chuck. You must be pretty awesome if he thought he was signing the book to himself. Maybe I'll try that if I ever meet him.

Thanks guys. I'm a sucker for crazy punch so I'm sure I'll be staying. I like to just write whatever comes to me. Most of the time its poetry and fantasy short stories.

Also, as the (Un)Official LitReactor Greeter, and the (Un)Official Representative of the (Un)Official LitChicks, they say

Or if you'd rather have the LitBoys, I can arrange that. (Un)Officially, of course.

so as not to confuse people, i am willing to be refered to as Moloch (which is hebrew for my last name)

Matt Attack's picture

Moloch-- I think that was a god of the Canaanite whose followers sacrificed their children....Molech means king though....(in Hebrew) I could be wrong, it's been ages since I have spoke/read Hebrew.

Joe did the questions help?

Charles's picture
Charles from Portland is reading Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones March 10, 2012 - 1:20pm

matt, you're basicly right. "moloch" is a bastardisation of "molech" which is credited to ginsberg, but i think it's also been used to differentiate between one meaning and the other, as well.

"moloch" (as a footnote to what matt said already) is the gold idol that was worshipped - i cant recall, either by the isrealites, when moses was recieving the ten commandments - or the one worshipped in the temple on the mount. i tend to think it was more likely the first one.

The Northern tribes worshiped it (sacrificing their kids ) and were banished during the first Diaspora for it.

man, this doesn't happen often. high brow discussions of christianity/old testiment, i mean. usually, by now, it would have degraded into name calling and general bashing of religion.

Thanks for all the welcomes, people. And the amusing posts. I too am interested in this Christian Erotica. Theres a lot of sexual undertones to begin with. The kneeling and submission and swallowing Jesus' flesh and blood. Hmm...church never seemed so hot. I may have to go tomorrow.
