I'm confused on how these work. When I open up the October thread, it's for August+September--also, I thought the Flash Me one was a different one everyday and the Flash fiction showdown (thingy...I can't remember the name now) was the once a month thing. Also, since I'm not a full member yet, can I still play? Or do I have to wait 'til I "grow up?"

Flash Me! is good fun. You can play. For sure. I positively encourage it.

It's monthly and the rules vary from time to time - Chester used to run it, now I am temporarily in the hot seat. Basically you need to follow the whole thread, not just the first post. The current month's guidelines and prompt are down near the bottom of page 14. For ease though - it's 750 words and the prompt is "They mostly come out at night." The prize is a Stephen Graham Jones book.

You can submit your Flashes right there in the main thread no need for attachments, just post it as a comment.

Maybe it's a tad cumbersome to have it all in one thread like that, but it makes reading all the subs, and putting the polls together, much easier. Plus (some way still) down the line there are plans for a bona fide Flashthology and then having everything together like that will be a godsend.

I hope you do submit something. The more the merrier

Oh - p.s., The Flash Smackdown is on the mainpage, not the forum, and is run by Rob Hart. That is a different animal. 250 words every time. Just like Flash Me!, they have cool prizes too.

Damn you VooDoo!  I just got done explaining all that and went to edit and came back to find you explained it already. Much better than I would had mind you. You forgot one awesome thread to mention. Mine. Plight of the Poet: (Prompt Competition)

I just started this and it is kind of taking off. It runs monthly also but if I keep getting submissions like I have this week it will run bi-monthly. No prizes yet, but finalist will be picked and winners will be chosen by other writers. Even if you are not into poetry, check it out and give it a shot. This month’s prompt is: Bullet
