Announces $25,000 Prize For Best eBook Mystery Novel

News, Prize,

Ladies and gents, start your word processors. has just announced the Mysterious Press Award, which will be given for the best e-book original mystery novel. The winner will receive a $25,000 advance against royalties and guaranteed worldwide publication.

Spoiler alert: I am the associate publisher of Which means I am looking forward to a fun and busy start to the new year.

Per my boss, Otto Penzler:

Digitally published books have become a major element of the publishing landscape over the past few years. Our goal is to acknowledge the outstanding work being produced in this format and reward it appropriately. We expect to have some truly wonderful manuscripts submitted for this substantial prize.

Here's the deal: The contest is open to both new and established authors, but must be made through literary agents. I know, sorry, but that's the difference between several hundred entries, and several hundred thousand entries. The submission window is Jan. 1 through April 30, 2016.

We've got people on our end who will whittle down the contenders. Then the top three picks will be circulated to our world-wide partners, and the winner will be announced at the 2016 Frankfurt Book Fair. Which makes me hopeful that I can talk Otto into letting me come with him to the Frankfurt Book Fair next year.

I'd like preferential treatment, please. :-) (I only went there since I don't yet have an agent and therefore don't anticipate entering -- but I will share the word among my other author friends).
