Charity Auction Offers Meetings with Jennifer Egan, Neil Gaiman, Leonard Nimoy and Others

Symphony Charity Auction

Want to have Jennifer Egan (A Visit from the Goon Squad) visit your private book club, either in person (if you live in New York) or via Skype? How about drinks with Leonard Nimoy (who wouldn’t)? Thinking about self-publishing a novel, and you’d like Chip Kidd (Jurassic Park, IQ84) to design your dust cover jacket? Or would you prefer to be first in line for Neil Gaiman’s farewell book signing tour?

These are just some of the prizes you could win in the upcoming charity auction in support of Symphony Space in NYC, the organization that brings us Selected Shorts, a weekly public radio show featuring actors and celebrities reading short fiction before a live audience. In addition to keeping Selected Shorts on the air, the auction will also benefit Symphony Space’s arts and education programs, including All Write!, an adult literacy outreach program.

Since we’re all writers here, it’s safe to assume these dreamy book prizes are out of our financial league (the starting bid on the Jennifer Egan Book Club is $1,000), but if anyone has a rich aunt or grandpa out there, be sure to forward them this article. The auction concludes with the Spring Swing and Access to the Arts Awards Gala on April 15.

If you did have the money, which auction lot would you pay anything to win?
