I haven't written anything in a week or two, so I'm itching to start. Keep me in mind, peeps, next time someone gets a battle going.
I voted in the recent Moon and Strange Photon match. I recognized the styles immediately: Moon's from all the reviews we swapped at The Cult, and SP's from his Game of Threes posts. That's a good match up, for sho.
I'm also bummed I missed a chance to duel with you, Em. Maybe next time. I hope you're making progress on that novella. At least for Chuck and Suzy. I think they were ready to preorder a copy after reading just the first few pages.

So, am I right if I say these are the rules
How to challenge: Call them out in this forum. The words "I challenge thee" must be included in the challenge in order for it to be considered valid.
The Prompt: first person to respond to the challengers' announcement issues the prompt.
Establish deadline... first draft 7 days from initial challenge. Final draft 14 days from initial challenge. (If everyone is open to getting a little frisky, we can cut that down to say, 4 and 8 days).
In honor of cowboywerewolf's pun, put "Beyond Thunderdome" before the title of the challenge so they're easy to find in the Browse Submission section. ex. Beyond Thunderdome: Me vs. You
Submission must be less than 2,500 words (so people will actually review it).
Let people know about the challenge in the Author Agenda section, so they'll review both challengers' responses (and promise the full 3 points).
Highest overall star rating wins.
Don't get your feelings hurt
What's at stake?
Strange Photon
from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyricsMay 8, 2015 - 7:36am
I think the battles (before they disappeared altogether) had evolved into more of a one-off poll, where the writers had a week to do what they could with the prompt, then uploaded the stories to a poll posted in the main discussions board. Then there was a week of reading/voting, and to the victor goes the exsanguinated corpse of their opponent. Pride was at stake.
Now, if people want to revamp this scenario, or return to the old style (which required both combatants and all readers to be paying workshop members), that's certainly up to those who step into the dome.

This thread is three years old, and as threads get 72 pages long, they start to become difficult to manage.
My suggestion: Hash out what you want the rules to be, then create a new thread with them in the first post. We'll let this thread sink and establish a new one. Hopefully, that will help boost some participation. I might even sticky it.
