When I decided to write a silly camping story with a vacuous teenage girl as the protagonist, I thought it would be pretty cool to have her kidnapped by Bigfoot. Porsche was rather slutty to begin with, having already slept with Mr. Vandekamp, who was the stepdad of one of the teen boys on the trip, the night before. Luckily, this story was written in the erotica genre, which allowed me to describe all the ins and outs in glorious, mostly raunchy, detail.
I had no idea that Cum For Bigfoot would take off the way it did, although I had ended the first installment with a cliffhanger, intending to publish at least two. After I penned the third story, sales suddenly exploded. Nick Redfern, who writes for Penthouse Magazine, blogged about the series, which led to a steady uptick in sales that continued for most of 2012. I never anticipated Bigfoot to continue for more than five books, but, due to popular demand and vocal fans on Twitter, I’ve reached book 15 now, with 16 on the horizon. That’s a lot of ape-sex.
I began my writing career under another name, penning a vampire series and a romantic thriller, among other books. In the spring of 2011, I decided to give erotica a try, publishing my first story, “Seducing Jennifer”. I have since revamped it and titled it “Jennifer’s Anal Seduction”. Then I wrote “Stacy and the Boys”, which turned into a long-running series. These stories met with moderate success, having reached the Erotica Top 100. Six months later, I got the idea for Bigfoot and the other stories in the Monster Sex series.
With regards to self-publishing, I never really tried to go the traditional route. The idea of writing a query letter gives me hives. With self-publishing it’s not necessary to secure an agent. Because of the different publishing platforms available and the higher royalty rates, self-publishing is not only a viable option, it’s highly profitable. My husband takes care of the formatting and business related issues, allowing me to focus on the creative aspect of my job, which I absolutely love.
Speaking of creativity, once I flung myself into the erotica genre, I realized that I could let my imagination run wild, although you do have to be mindful to avoid underage sex, rape, bestiality (If they ever discover that Bigfoot is real, I’m in trouble!) and pedophilia. Publishing continues to change, and the popularity of the erotica genre has led to an explosion of new authors and scam artists. Due to this rise in interest, many booksellers are now hiding erotica. On Amazon, they have begun to implement an Adult filter, which keeps certain books hidden in their searches. Unfortunately, Cum For Bigfoot has been hit with the dreaded, sales killing filter. I could re-title the entire series to something tamer and appease the Gods of Amazon…but…nah. Fuck it.
The old adage is true—sex sells. It will never stop selling. It will never stop being in demand. It’s at the heart of everything we do, the ultimate motivation. Being able to purchase eBooks, especially dirty ones from the privacy of your Kindle or Nook, has opened up erotica and erotic romance to the masses. I’ll continue to write under Virginia Wade, but I have been moonlighting in another genre. It’s refreshing to sit down and write a fluffy fuck-piece after I’ve written a chaste, historical romance. You could call it a palate cleanser, but for me, it’s more like the day job, and what fun it is!
Cum For Bigfoot is free on Amazon (see link below) . I’ve also bundled the series into CreateSpace and in the eBook format for your absolutely filthy reading pleasure. Enjoy!
