Hi, I'm J.C. Wigriff, and this is my obligatory "hi, my name is J.C. Wigriff" introduction post. I suppose I could have said, "hi, I'm J.C. Wigriff, and I'm a writer," in the same way someone says "and I'm an alcoholic," but that would indicate that I have some sort of skill or notoriety. Perhaps a more apt description would be: Hi, I'm J.C. Wigriff, someone who writes and likes to tell stories, and pretends that someday, somewhere, somebody might read my stories and enjoy them enough to tell their friends about them.

Truth be told: I really don't know what the fuck I'm doing. Here in my hometown of somewhere unimportant, rural Illinois, we don't have writer's groups. Currently, the only outlet I have to feedback are my friends, and I don't believe a single word that passes through their lying, dirty lips. "Oh, this is fantastic," they'll say in response to something I send them. "I really loved it." Liars, liars, liars, liars, liars...

So I came here in search of growth; to acquire skills, learn new techniques, read other people's writing, gain constructive criticism, and be apart of a community of people all working together to help each other succeed in not being so shitty at this thing we like to do.

Hey, and it's cheaper than Netflix.

Hi, I'm J.C. Wigriff, and I'm excited to be here.

Hi and welcome.  I Googled it and the Southern Illinois Writers Guild is in a town 3 miles up the road.  Hope that helps.

Dwayne: I actually contacted the Southern Illinois Writers Guild a couple years back. Without going into much detail, it's a small group with infrequent gatherings, and the active members couldn't be further removed demographically from me. It ... wasn't a good fit. Unfortunately, they're the only real group like that in the area, even though I live in a university town. It seems like more of a social club than anything. Thank you, though.

Hi! I think you'll discover fine writers here who can challenge you and give insightful comments on your work, when you put it out here.

In any event, you'll find kindred spirits.. :)
