The Next Digital Frontier: Readers And Authors Interacting Within eBooks

Authors Interacting Within eBooks

via eBookNewser

Online book retailer Copia is experimenting with a function that will allow authors to interact with readers within the pages of an eBook.

They're testing it out with Love Goes to Buildings on Fire by Will Hermes. Here's how it works, according to their website:

  • Purchase Love Goes to Buildings on Fire
  • Download Copia's free eReader App
  • Open your new book in the app and use the note option to write your question
  • Remember to hit "Sync"
  • Will Hermes will post responses periodically from now through Feb. 21.

Seth Kaufman, VP of Merchandising and Marketing for Copia, had this to say about the promotion:

We are thrilled to have Will Hermes debut this promotion with us and showcase the interactive possibilities of our app. Will’s book is great conversation starter, not only because it breaks new ground in music history, but because it dishes on so many musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, and David Bryne.

This is the thing that really excites me about eBooks: Finding ways to enrich the reading experience. How cool is this? Hopefully this experiment goes well, because it seems like a logical application of the technology.

This is extremely cool.

(like e-readers and e-books, it seems the technology I crave is the last to arrive...and now, interactivity within books is the last interactive multimedia function to arrive...nevertheless, I'm more excited than bitter)
