Rare Signed First Edition of Where The Wild Things Are Goes to Auction
A collection of Maurice Sendak memorabilia, including a rare first edition of Where The Wild Things Are signed by the author, will go on sale through Swann Auction Galleries on January 24th. The auction, which coincides with Bilbiography Week in New York City, also includes eight pencil sketches for Sendak's 1975 CBS carton Really Rosie, several signed posters, and a complete set of Todd McFarlane Wild Things action figures.
Most of the Sendak artifacts come from the private collection of the late Reed Orenstein, a lifelong friend of the author. The collection was consigned to Swann by Orenstein's widow, Salon reports. The signed first edition of Wild Things alone is expected to fetch anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000, so you'll have to have a pretty obese wallet to get your hands on this one.
The auction will also feature collector's items from such artists as Dr. Seuss, Edward Gorey, and Charles Schulz, amongst many others. Read a list of all the lots up for sale here.
Who wants this sweet rare book in their collection? Any other items up for auction tickle your fancy?
