Put Some Holiday Cash In Your Favorite Bookseller's Pocket, Courtesy of James Patterson
If you've got a favorite employee at your local indie bookstore, good news. Fill out a little form, and James Patterson might just give your favorite bookseller a holiday bonus.
In a move that makes the author hard to hate, Patterson has promised to pay a total of $250,000 in bonus money to individual booksellers this year, each bonus ranging from $1,000 to $5,000, a promise that mirrors Patterson's donations to indie bookstores, which totaled over $1 million in 2014.
Now, we all know that booksellers portray themselves as well-paid, always flashing cash around town. But to put it in perspective, there's currently a law in New York City that provides a minimum fast food worker salary of $15/hour. While workers at the famous Strand are alleged to make $13.99.
The nomination period ends on November 1st, which still gives you plenty of time to put some names out there. The form is pretty short, and it could definitely make a hardworking bookseller's holiday a whole hell of a lot nicer.
