Illustrated Harry Potter Series to be Released in UK

Harry Potter—one of the most iconic children’s series of all time—is receiving the artistic treatment, reports The Guardian. Bloomsbury will begin publishing newly illustrated editions of the books starting this autumn.

The decision to release the illustrated editions comes on the back of a high sales year for the Harry Potter series. While sales of the books grew by 29% after reissues featuring new cover art, Bloomsbury has seen a decline in income made from the adult fiction genre. The hope of the publisher is to recreate the excitement that took root upon the release of the original Harry Potter novels.

While Bloomsbury is feeling confident in its 2015 fiction list, which includes new gems from William Boyd and Margaret Atwood, the most anticipated may be the illustrated Harry Potter editions. The Philosopher’s Stone will be the first published in hardback, with artwork by artist Jim Kay on every page. The unique version will go on sale in October and is priced at £30 (around $47 in U.S. currency).
