Heard of ‘Selfies’? The Next Big Thing: ‘Bookshelfies’
We’ve all done it: that photo of you and your mate/partner/a stranger in front of some famous place/object/person which you take by extending your arms as far as they go and using your smartphone to snap a quick photo for posterity or whatever.
Well, that’s passé, now, overtaken by a new trend discovered on Tumblr this week: basically “pictures of people in front of their bookcases, providing a little blurb about the books they have”. It’s called a ‘bookshelfie’, and you can see my favorite example above, posted by one russellquinn.
This is what he had to say about his photo:
“I’ve no idea why we all have to wear sunglasses.”
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
A Moment In The Sun by John Sayles
The Instructions by Adam Levin
Black Hole by Charles Burns
I was going to make my own, then realised I’d have to tidy up my shelves — and make sure none of the books are embarrassing, of course — maybe I’ll do that later.
You can check out the page and submit your own on the Tumblr site here, or even better, submit yours in the comments below.
