David Mitchell Tweets Short Story to Promote New Novel

David Mitchell Tweets Short Story

Cloud Atlas author David Mitchell has released his newest short story, "The Right Sort" on Twitter. Serialized over the last week, "The Right Sort" is the story of a boy, Nathan, who gets up to some supernatural snooping with the assistance of some Valium and another boy, Jonah.

Mitchell is no noob when it comes to creating strange reading experiences. Cloud Atlas featured multiple, intertwined narratives spanning an enormous timeline, and the creative format of "The Right Sort" was adopted to promote Mitchell's forthcoming novel, The Bone Clocks. The short story, though not integral to the narrative of Clocks, takes place in the same universe.

Author Joe Hill on Mitchell and The Bone Clocks:

If you can imagine the austere literary prowess of Ian McEwan married to the storytelling gifts of J.K. Rowling, you will begin to approximate David Mitchell. There’s no real argument: he’s the best novelist of his generation—and the most fun. The Bone Clocks is a stunning work of invention, incident, and character. The levels of awesome in this book are off the charts.

You can find David Mitchell on Twitter, @David_Mitchell, however the easiest way to read the story is via Sceptre Books. The Bone Clocks will come out on September 2nd, 2014.

I had no idea he had a new novel coming out. Didn't read the last one, but I'm a huge Cloud Atlas fan, and The Bone Clocks sounds great.
