Books-A-Million will open 41 new stores next month

Via Businessweek

Considering how much we hear about bookstores struggling in this economy, it's refreshing to hear that someone is actually planning to open some new locations.

Books-A-Million, which already has 210 store throughout the United States, has announced that they're opening 41 new stores next month--some of them in locations left vacant when Borders bit the dust.

It's good news, even though they did close 21 underperforming stores in the third quarter of this year. But hey, this practically cancels that out!

I've been to a Books-A-Million once, in Washington, D.C. It was pretty cool for a chain bookstore. Nice selection, good browsing layout. I don't know much more about it than that. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences they can share about them?

Also, here's the list of places that they're opening the new stores. Are you from one of these towns? Are you in desperate need of more book options? Let us know!

I was pretty saddened when they closed the one down the street from me a few weeks ago. Not a terribly impressive selection, but it was close and had good deals. My brother worked there for some years, he would bring me a couple books every once in a while and got me into a lot of more high Literary stuff.

The BAM in my town (Lake Charles, LA) just opened a yogart place next to it. I heard that originally, they were going to replace the Joe Muggs coffee shop with the yogart place, which would have been a disastrous move.

Ours cut back on their operating hours. Instead of closing at eleven Monday through Saturday, they now close at nine. Me and my sister discovered this when we drove all the way over at 10:30 PM. Other than that, I can usually find what I was looking for and look through the donated library books that they sell for cheap.
