Barnes & Booze & Noble: Bookstore To Offer Beer And Wine

If you're like me and you're sick of distressing your pants pockets with heavy flasks every time you go book shopping, good news!

Barnes & Noble is launching four "concept" stores next year, and in addition to featuring an expanded food menu, they will be selling beer and wine.

The bookseller is making a bid to compete with Amazon by making things a little more experiential. Based on the success of booze and books in select cities, Barnes & Noble may choose to expand these offerings to other cities as well. Currently, stores where you can grab a cold one are set to be in New York, L.A., Washington D.C., and Minneapolis (according to one source), or Eastchester NY, Edina, MN, the Palladio in Folsom, CA, and in Loudon, VA (according to another source).

Barnes & Noble seems committed to the concept. They've made some shakeups in their organization to accommodate this new plan, and when the announcement was made, B&N stock went up 8%.

So if you live in one of those cities, how about you go get yourself a pint and a paperback? Don't blow this for the rest of us, okay?

Anyone got an ideal book-browsing cocktail?

It will be interesting to find out what I bought the day after. What was drunk me into while browsing the stacks?
