EXCLUSIVE: Announcing the TOC for "Both Sides: An Anthology of Border Noir"

Announcing the TOC for Both Sides: An Anthology of Border Noir

I know every polite editor says the same thing, but if you know me, you know I'm not polite, so what I'm about to tell you is true: the quality and quantity of submissions I received for Both Sides was overwhelming.

Going through them was humbling. Picking fifteen was almost impossible. I somehow got it done, and I'm proud to share with you this TOC. I wanted to have diversity. I wanted rappers and lawyers. I wanted people of color. I wanted men and women. I wanted Mexicans and Americans, sure, but also folks from other countries with different visions of different borders. I wanted established writers and new voices. I wanted people who had crossed a border and people who have worked with those who have crossed one. The list of things I wanted was intimidating. On top of all that, I wanted amazing narratives written by some of the best in the business. I didn't want cliches. I wanted truth. I wanted different experiences and points of view.

Well, it all came together. Agora, the new imprint from Polis Books, will publish the anthology in 2020, and I couldn't be more excited to be working with them, especially the amazing Chantelle Aimée Osman and Jason Pinter, who have been generous and supportive from day one. So without further ado, feast you eyes on this list of amazing writers. I guarantee you'll find at least a couple of your favorites:

  • Isaac Kirkman
  • Shannon Kirk
  • Alex Segura
  • Rob Hart
  • Nicolas Obregón
  • J Todd Scott
  • Chris Rosales
  • Daniel Olivas
  • Cynthia Pelayo
  • Johnny Shaw
  • Lago Milagros
  • Sandra Jackson-Opoku
  • Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason
  • Nick Mamatas
  • David Bowles
