Amazon Developing Selfie Pay System

Selfies have become an internet staple as of late, and now it seems as if Amazon is joining the trend. According to GalleyCat, the company may soon implement a process that lets you pay for books by selfie.

Amazon has filed for a patent on a system that will make purchases possible through taking a photo or video in lieu of using a password. Employing technology similar to Microsoft’s Windows Hello, the unique idea will incorporate image-authentication software to confirm the user.

CNBC was quoted as saying that the patent “is related to a separate patent Amazon holds for a technology that allows a device to authenticate a user via a photo or video, but not necessarily to complete a transaction.”

I guess in the case of buying a book on Amazon, a picture really is worth a thousand words.
