People were generally impressed by the new Primus then? Just asking because on first listen it sounded a bit bland to me. It sounded more like Claypool's solo stuff than a Primus album.

The new Mastodon record kicks ass. Quality band. Have to say this is my album of the week. Haven't seen these guys live since the Leviathan tour so I'm hoping they hit the UK up sometime soon.

I've been obsessed with A Real Hero since hearing it in the movie, and I can't stop listening to it. I have a massive list on Spotify full of stuff from people on the soundtrack, as well as some other people who seem to be doing the same dreamy 80s synth stuff.

It's been a little while since this came out, but I'm still going back to it.  The Decemberists paint great pictures with their music.  They are, first and foremost, I think, storytellers, and as such there are much worse bands for a writer to listen to.

I broke down and purchased the Nevermind: Super Deluxe Edition.  For a second I wondered what KC would've thought of a "Super Deluxe Edition" of Nevermind.  Then I remembered I had all kinds of convictions at 25 and most of them were fucking stupid.

It's a good set, I guess, and it brings back fond memories of eighth-grade cross country and b-squad basketball.

ooo i forgot that was coming. i just got a copy of nirvana live at the paramount in seattle.

his convictions included not doing soundtracks, and video games and car commercials. i think he would stick by those, but cobain was a perfectionist. i think he would probably jump at the chance to go back and use a producer he would have rather had, or remix a song he wasnt happy with.

Its been the first cool days of fall this week since the last year of nonstop stifling heat, so in this weather I try to stick to nasty aggressive heavy metal to set the mood. Lots of death metal, 80's black speed thrash, lots of Thin Lizzy (Fighting specifically) and Judas Priest (Sad Wings of Destiny mostly). And yet, the lazy singersongwriter summer soundtrack is still bleeding in there, like this album

a pretty overlooked record by today's standards: year zero (nine inch nails). though it was pretty buzzworthy when it released, it quickly faded in the background, and i am not sure why. the more i listen to it, the more brilliant it sounds.

I have two in heavy rotation right now. One is Neighborhoods by Blink 182 (say what you will, but I grew up while they were growing up, and I think it is phenomenal) and the other is Happeners by White Wives. Fantastic album. It's a collaboration by two guys from one of the hardest core punk bands in PA and an acoustic artist and what they put together is unlike either genre but completely amazing.
