for a final project i have to do a series of photos that portray me, as an artist. these images DO NOT have to be actual portraits of me, but should convey the way in which i see myself, or perhaps feel i am seen by others.

cool.

however the assignment requires these images of ME be inspired by other artists.

am i the only one scratching their heads here?

i would like to see this thread continue on after this discussion (if there is one) and be a sort of repository for such ideas, and nonsense that goes on out there. i feel they are rich with possibilities for authors out there with writers' block, or people who just need to laugh, or vent about the what the fuck moments in their day to day lives.

So they want you to do pastiches of other photographers work in relationship to yourself?  That makes sense. lol

Just take pictures of babies playing in animal costumes and say it's your inner child or some bullshit.

Reminds me of the art teacher in Ghost World.

Yeah, Ghost World is pretty damn funny.  I like the graphic novel of it too.  Daniel Clowes does some really subversive stuff. You should read:  Like An Velvet Glove Cast in Iron.  Also Adrian Tomine's Summer Blonde graphic.
