Hi everybody,

I am new to Lit Reactor !

I am keen to write for children and have a couple of stories on the go ! Does anyone know any good websites for budding children's writers?

What book do you think had the most impact on you as a child ? I am interested to know what writers think about that.

I used to love reading about Greek and Roman mythologies. That and stories about knights and castles.

Looking back I think the first real book I read was the Hobbit at age 7. It took me ages to get past the first 100 pages but once I did I couldn't put it down.

I will recommend you read the Harry Potter books, if you haven't done so already. Look at the structure of the whole, the elegance of language, which cannot be ignored, but especially for children. Also take in the messages that Rowling sends out. These are all positive, role-model kind of messages. The most critical element, of course, is a strong plot. Then go out and write your own stuff.

Hi Saurabh

Yes, read Potter as an adult, enjoyed it. I liked her imaginative magical devices and contexts.

I liked the Hobbit as a child too. I think Rowling used some of the same archetypes from Tolkein. Its that familiarity with Euro-myth and fables with a new spin.
