I've been eating a ton of ramen lately. I'm training myself to eat cheaper. I try to buy the more expensive, all natural stuff, because in my mind this separates college OtB from grown up Otb.

Anyway, I cut up mushrooms & scallion, put in spinach, green beans, edamame, spices, whatever - I try to make this a healthy version (because I mostly deny myself meat during the week because I am a Flexitarian, because I do things from time to time).

So, yep. Ramen for dinner.

@averydoll - what was your dinner?

I'm punishing myself with a detox after weeks of gluttony (my excuse was Vegas, Niagara Falls, and moving house).  So tonight I had an incredibly appetising romaine lettuce, cucumber, and celery salad, with a dressing of cracked pepper and lemon juice.

I made Shawn a lettuce, carrot, cheese and ranch dressing salad.

Not exactly an inspiring food night in our household tonight. I did fix Shawn some crab legs for lunch though.

I kind of cheated myself and had fried chicken, because I was lazy and it was fast. But tomorrow will probably be a grilled chicken salad or some talapia and vegtables or something.

oooooooooooo taco salad! I'm having that tomorrow. I has the ingredients to make it happen.

College OtB used to go to the dining hall and make taco salads that were probably 4000 calories. Who knew. The 90s were so innocent.

The answer ended up being Trader Joe's organic cheese sandwich crackers (2 handfuls), a glass of "Scary Blackberry Ghoul-Aid", 2 slices of 5-year Widmer cheddar, and a spoonful of "energy mix" peanut butter. I'm omnivorous?

@Otis That's a great idea with the ramen. And hey, it's a real food in Japan and look at how well they're doing.

With the approach of a major food related holiday (Christmas), I realize I'm going to be eating like a mad woman for a month.  So with the last couple of weeks before that happens, I've decided to try really extra hard to eat "right" and be "healthy".  But really, I want to try out this anorexia I've heard so much about.

Back when I ate meat (I'm occasionally testing the waters right now and only eat meat in SC or Europe), I would order sides of country gravy with everything. In public.

Best thing ever: grilled cheese with pickles dipped in a vat of country gravy. (Cue Homer Simpson drooling)

Took some hamburger meat and added 3 cloves of mushed and cut garlic, set it simmering, sprinkle of salt and a splurt of dark soy, added in diced onions sprinkled liberally with cayenne,  chopped portabella mushrooms about a cup full, one half large yellow pepper, green onions and celery and a few super thin round slices of carrot. Simmer til done then throw in frozen peas. It's winter now, it felt good going in.

Eating some beans. Beans are overrated. I mean, they're okay. Like rice, it comes down to what you do with it. I'm eating them with cheese and some kettle potato chips. Like non-hispanic nachos. Cracker nachos. White bread nachos. Honky nachos. Sort of like Frito pie, but Fritos are sort of hispanic. Like even more white trash Frito pie. Call me Honey Boo Boo. Just don't call me late for... no I can't do it. I won't do it.

Yep, the white kind. Not to be confused with sausage gravy, which is also white, and serves with morning biscuits.

hm, what's the cappuccino to latte ratio, J.Y? I do 2 double shots of espresso in a mug with 5 oz steamed milk, and had 3 of those.

I guess it varies, depending on the wetness of the cappi. 3 of those could be one big, stiff latte. 6 shots is a lot for one drink, but I've seen it done. Oh, double-shots, you said. That'd be a big-gulp latte. Illegal latte.

Gravy is one of those things I never liked until I learned that most of the gravy I'd eaten was crap. It can be wonderful, but instant industrial gravy is just sickening.
