Just give a one sentence teaser of your current work in progress. Get us hyped and excited to read it when it hits the workshop.
Right now for me: A fuck buddy type short story / part of my novel that I recently changed into a sugar daddy sort of tale, mostly written drunk, as it's the only way I seem to get the writing accomplished these days.
A short for the psychosis anthology about a girl named Andi with Cotards Syndrome.
A book about letters.
a very long suicide note/book about sidewalks.
A follow up to 'Malice in Bluderland' called 'Cocksickle' - a how to fail in a sex cult, while having a midlife crisis and while thinking you have Stockholm Syndrome. Because you hate your ex but want to get back with her, and killing her seems the only cure.
Rewriting my OCD story for the anthology and also working on this story about writers at a conference. It's a satire on how pretentious writers, well, how we all can be when we take ourselves too seriously.
A story about the benefits of yoga and anal bleaching.
An assignment for Craig's class that is due tommorow. Haven't started on it yet.
Southern Nights.
Three Blankets -story about a young man having to get rid of a dead body, while dragging his best friend into it for help, and so the story's really about them and their friendship or what that friendship can take.
@Nick, anal bleaching rules lol
A post-apocolyptic serial about a schmuck who can't die. Cliche I know, but you have to start somewhere.
I like the color of sphincters (lips or assholes). You add lipstick to make one brighter and bleach to make the other lighter. I'm fine with natural color. Although, I guess I really like pale lips, so maybe you should bleach your lips and put lipstick up your ass - just as an experiment. Post photos of how it turns out.
Not a goddamn thing. I finished my NaNo project early and have been twiddling my thumbs considering what's next.
A short story called "Aggressive Mimicry," about fireflies and nyctophobia (fear of the dark).
A book of short stories!
Two current projects :
1. Collection of transgressive, short stories loosely connected by the same characters
2. Cyberpunk novel about magic returning to earth
Also, I've got finished novel about terrorist gaining popularity to become internet celebrity. It's after last drafts but for now I've got no time to send it to publishers (or maybe it's my inner fear of rejection :P who knows? :P )
First post.
I'm a screenwriter/film director, and I'm working on a web series about multiple service industry jobs, entitled "Service". I feel that in general, my films lack "perspective" or character bias, so this is an exercise in adding perspective.
The idea is to take one service (in this example providing a meal at a restaurant) and go through that service from start to finish from the perspective of each person involved in providing that service. Pot and pan washers feel a certain way about dish washers, cooks feel a certain way about waitresses, customers feel a certain way about the restaurant owner. The plot of the short film is the creation of the service, and the service goes through different iterations depending on the character and their point of view.
This series will examine
Hoping to have the first script written by the end of December. :}
A horror script tentaviely titled "The Boy". As always, I've been posting the occasional image at my tumblr in reference to whatever it is I'm working on. After this I'm back to the grind on short work, then my novel.
Short story about an American president stuck in a bunker with the last of the surviving government after the zombie apocalypse.
The superhero story I was planning to make my NaNo but didn't have time.
500 pages of "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
a story about stories - which I think most of my stories are - if I ever finish one, I'll let you know.
1. Revising three short stories: One is about a birthday party that goes murderously wrong, the second is about how evil love can be, and the third is about a white wolf and a dead headless farmer.
2. Untitled project (18,000 words into it) about a shard and a sliver.
3. Untitled project (3,000 words shooting for 30,000) about cannibalism and friendship.
I've got four projects that I can hardly keep up with.
1. Revising a short story I submitted to the workshop about a month ago, Toys.
2. So far untitled short story for the psychosis anthology.
3. I never made the deadline (due to the stress this last month has caused) so I'm going to keep doing my NaNo story since I love it. It's a gothic horror piece called Nevermore, about 5 broken individuals who are drawn to an old manor for uncertain reasons.
4. The other night inspiration struck me with: Black 6, a transgressive/horror/fantasy/whothefuckknows piece about a group of monster hunters. This idea will probably stay on the backburner until I've finished the previous three though.
Working on my first novel When Innocence is Lost. Whatever that title puts in your head is probably correct about the book in some way.
1. Memoir about my relationship with my Dad, and cleaning up his belongings after his death.
2. Alternative history work in which the difference is a legal Assassins Guild.
3. Organizing the 30 some novels I have started but not got much done much on (all at or about 20,000 words or less)
4. Co-authoring a novel about bikers who hunt supernatural monsters.
@ Dwayne,
I just sold a memoir about my relationship with my mother, which I started when she died. Good luck with it, it's extremely cathartic.
The joyfully tragic serial killer love story that Hubert Selby Jr. and Nabokov would have collaborated on if they'd met and written together.
@ Phil
Where did you sell it? I don't think I was around when you began but I read about it somewhere and it sounds really interesting. Also, I'm glad it helped you.
@Phil - Parts I wrote years ago but most is something I'm just now working on. I'd also like to hear were you sold it.
I sold it to Zero Books, who mainly publish philosophy/critical theory stuff. I suspect that if it sells well enough, they might consider taking on more. If I hear anything about it, I can let you know, if you like?
@Phil - That would be great yeah, although I doubt they'd be interested in what I'm writing.
I'm one of those people who cant work on only one project at a time, which on occasions can be a real pain in the ass. There are two novels that I'm focusing on the most though; the first is a very dark story about a group of high schoolers and a drug induced game they play based around sex and violence that takes a very dangerous turn. The other is a noir/hardboiled crime thriller about two men who meet in the desert and realize they're both trying to hunt down the same man who supposedly ruined their lives(I'll be posting the first chapter of this one very soon, can't wait to get some feedback!)
Also, I'm very interested in this Psychosis Anthology that many of you seem to be working on. I have been working on a few shorts myself that seem to be in the same vein as these...anyway I could get some more info on this? Is there any help needed?
It's based on mental disorders told from a medically accurate perspective so it needs to be researched. Your story can be about anything as long as the main character is the one with the mental illness. I have a master list of who is writing which disorder, I may open a new thread inviting more people to write for it because it seems like more new people are joining the site. I would like a rough draft by Dec. 15th but if you need longer, let me know. I was making the final deadline mid-January but I may make it the end of January because I really want certain people to participate and they need additional time after the holidays. It's unpaid for now but we are going to shop it around and if it sells well, everyone will get royalties, everyone who gets published in it is guaranteed a physical copy of the book and can use it as a professional writing credit. Stories can be anywhere from 2500-5000 words or longer if they are exceptional. Free hugs for everyone who submits. Email me if you have any questions.
speculative fiction novel about a group of people for whom suicide is an addictive drug that causes massive memory loss. My protagonist is trying to "get clean" so she can help catch a serial killer that killed and buried her two years prior.
Novel, novel, novel. And some major critiquing.
a drunken love story between a middle aged loner and a young psychopathic hooker. Pretty much a memoir, only fun.
An erasure.
It's pretty damn fun.
Three projects right now:
Short stories
#1 - (Psychosis Anthology) A girl who comes from an over-bearing Christian home who is ashamed of masturbating.
#2 - A commune of canibals
Novel
A novel about two best friends from a fictional town in New York - loosely based on Los Angeles - that experience drugs, death and binaural beats.
A novel, a short story, and a screenplay; but that's what I'm always working on. A constant juggle of mediums.
Right now the novel's about identity, the short story's about distractions, and the screenplay's about conflicting desires.
Josef--did you get the Christmas card I sent you?
Also, my wife liked the story you wrote about the Christian girl because she grew up in a Christian home and she said that she identified with the feeling of shame about masturbation thing. Not the lesbian parts though lol
I'm working on keeping it sane, writing out everything and trying to work through it all. My poetry is a constant, and I will always be writing, whether it be poetry, stories, or journaling.
I'm working on getting me some sweet lovin' withoug putting out any effort whatsoever. So far it's not going well, but that's just the world playing hard to get.
The novel.
The Psychosis short.
My sanity.
I just posted a story up on my blog:
http://vertigoschism77.wordpress.com/2012/01/04/kiss-the-baby-jesus/
Don't make him too nice, Beckanator. I liked that he was a sociopath with no moral compass. That's what makes the ending so chilling.
Lainey's funeral and subsequent after-party. We finally meet Julian Diamond.
I also want to add that we're all really bad at following instructions: "Just give a one sentence teaser of your current work in progress"
