Scandinavian Black Metal is fucking atrocious, though their documentaries are pretty gnarly."

Agreed. I guess that's why I like them. They think it's real. CC knows that's it just halloween and bull shit. Even the gents in Slayer think it's just fun, but those Swedes and Nords. Eesh. Some of the stories.....

I like Iced Earth and a couple of metal bands in that vein. I haven't heard much Swedish stuff but i hear good things.

So, how does the schedule work with the upcoming holidays?

Oh geez...I have Refused albums. Are they really metal? Like, Tom Martin style metal? I thought they were hardcore at the time.

I'm taking a week off for the holidays, I think you guys should too.

NEXT WEEK NO ONE WRITES.

YOU SHOULD READ AND VOTE

Next prompts will be delivered the 28th for everyone - does that sound okay?  It's really better for me.

Good question, Matt. I barely squeaked this one out. I started and finished today because everything is nutty here right now. Would love to see a holiday time table.

Sounds like a plan. The New Year isn't nearly as disruptive as Christmas.

So those of us in The Pit who make it this round will get our prompt on the 28th and it will be due on the 1st, while everyone in the Winner's Bracket will be due the 4th? Sounds good to me.

Well, the first is just as crazy for us since we have company over and it's our anniversary, but that's fine. I'll make the time.

Finally submitted. My sister's 21st was yesterday and I got her drunk at two p.m. off of a "Cosmo-Rita" at TGI Friday's and then I went to her house and got wasted with my friends later that night. I kept waking up thinking, "Shit, what time is my story due?" Because apparently, that's what my drunk mind cares about.

Strangely, I'll have more time next week to write than this week, but I understand that's not the norm for most. Maybe I'll crack open an actual book for the first time in months. Soooo far behind on my owed reads.

So...

1) Flash stories (Pit) are due today (?)

2) Short stories are due friday

3) One week to read and vote, as per usual

4) Then one week of nothing

Is that correct?

TomMartinArt's picture
TomMartinArt from Amherst, MA December 18, 2012 - 1:49pm

Also...

5) To clarify, "flash" just means "extra short"?

Gordon Highland's picture

Ah, so it's really just a week off for The Pit. The winner's bracket is a reading/voting week next week anyway, so if everyone gets a prompt on the 28th (which I'm definitely good with), we're back to normal. I think.

@JY - Gay Witch Abortion stayed at my house years ago, nice dudes.

I vote for ...

You guys have to quit saying this.   Your votes are meaningless and your arrogance in assuming they are otherwise makes me want to punish you.

On the other hand, since I am giving you a week off, I guess I could let the flashes run a week this time - BUT ONLY THIS ONCE.

Read some Chuck Palahniuk essays, and got my groove back.  Feeling good.  So far, I've written 1,579 words, and I just realized what my story is really about.  Funny, that.

And to set the record straight: I wrote a story last round about a kidnapping victim named Meredith.

But if you still want this dance:

I do that all the time, it actually works. It's similar to telling people that you don't really play, and then getting to laugh in their face when you win a hand as if you don't know game etiquette.

I have submitted my story. I also acknowledge that I do not have a right to vote when it comes to the technical aspects of WAR. I humbly bow down to my overlords, as I have done since day one.

But if there is some sort of uprising, I also cast my vote for a break during the holidays. I'll be drinking cheesesteaks and eating yuengling in my motherland.
