My problem is that I've been struggling with the prompt and my idea is too grand. I attempted to solve that problem with an idea that is brilliant and twice as grand as the first idea. The amount of time just to research either and establish the voice I am aiming for in each means I could have them both done by March, maybe. So crap. Four days to go and I got nothing.

Try that in The Pit! My first idea was definately a 2,500+ concept. Even with the new concept, I was still closer to 1,500 words than 1,200. Got it down though, and tonight just need to polish a bit. Oh, and a friggin' title would be nice too!

Up until 2:00 AM last night hammering out a firsty, will steal some hours from work today to polish it up. Stories rarely work for me like this, but I had my title five minutes after receiving my prompt, general concept ten minutes after that. Throw in three days of stewing to get to the core of the character and bam, I have something resembling a story. Needs some serious work, but I'm comfortable with it. Enough.

CC is a fun band. I don't listen to metal very often because, for me, it begins and ends with At the Gates. Though Darkest Hour's Mark of the Judas is amazing because, well, it's At the Gates. Slaughter of the Soul should be the only thing playing when talking about metal.
That being said, I came up in the 90s and played in punk bands for years and years and listen to Refused and Quicksand and Billie Holiday a lot. I also think Scandinavian Black Metal is fucking atrocious, though their documentaries are pretty gnarly.

Agreed about their documentaries. A very interesting time, some fascinating viewpoints. I wrote a (really bad) song back in 2008 called Black Metal Sucks that I now regret. It remains a lightning rod for attention and hate. If I'd known it was going to be this popular, I'd have put some effort into it.
