Flash Me! is supporting all things WAR this month, with a fictional quotes competition.

Give us a "get to the choppa" or a "I love the smell of napalm." Killer trash talk is what we're looking for. Imagine you're the last soldier left from your platoon, all yopur buddies are dead, and the enemy is facing you down. What do you say as you spit in their eye?

Or maybe you're a general, a Churchill. What rising, historic speech do you put out over the airwaves to inspire your armies? Make it uplifting, make it heart-wrenching.

WAR quotes. Just a bit of fun. The best ones will be reposted here. Scroll down this page until you hit the WAR picture to find the start of this month's posting.

All the best.

P.S. - ALL war participants are expected to write at least one fictional quote. If you don't, well then I will come get ya.

And we'll all be very disappointed in you ;-)

@Dino:  Yes sir, all worked out.  Prompts this Friday (not bumped for the weather).  One week to write.  Posted next Friday.  Two weeks to read and vote.

@David Shephard:  No worries, man.  When we drop the prompts they will arrive in your PM box with the rules list and contact info, etc., just like last time.

My WAR quote.

How the the hell did they lose! I thought it was fake, it is not.

"Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally."

And number 2

“War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking into the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comforable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent. For if leisure and security were enjoyed by all alike, the great mass of human beings who are normally stupefied by poverty would become literate and would learn to think for themselves; and when once they had done this, they would sooner or later realise that the privileged minority had no function, and they would sweep it away.”
― George Orwell, 1984

I live in South Jersey and our area got rocked. I'm hearing we won't have power until mid-week next week at the earliest.  I will try my best to get my story in once the prompts are given out or at least check back to let someone know I have to forfeit.

@Nik- I remember how fucking slow BGE was. I feel for ya. Maryland sucks like that. I spent 5 days without it after Irene.

@Michael- I can't speak for anyone else, but I wouldn't begrudge waiting for you to get it together before we begin. There are far more important things in your life right now. I was VERY impressed with your Governor yesterday, "My state is underwater, I don't give a damn about presidential politics right now"

Why not do the staggered two week start? Prompts drop on time, but you have two weeks to get it together and each pairing posts when they're finished as long as it's within the two week timeframe. This would also help with reading.

He said "fictional" quote, so I took that mean something existing in literature/film/etc. Maybe that's wrong???

SConley's picture
SConley from Texas is reading Coin Locker Babies October 31, 2012 - 10:52am

I thought "fictional" meant made of fiction, not from fiction? I don't think we're helping the confusion...

Me thinks perhaps a clarification from Mr. wickedvoodoo is in order...?

Like I said, I thought "fictional" meant existing, but I think it would also be fun to make them up as well.

What is going on there in America?   Waterproblems?

Today i heared on the news that a lot of waterproblems wouldn't have occured if the right stuff was bought/ installed.  And why weren't those things installed? Very simple. People in the states (in general!) think to much about themselves and there own luck. Public things and solidarity issues are of secondary interest. It is a shame that a wealthy country like the United States cannot keep there cities dry. Not much was learned after Katrina, i geuss.

So remember where to vote for! If you would vote republican and they would win, the consequence would be less money to public things and services, less state, more ego, more yourself. Maybe good for some, but water doesn't care about that and will still be flooding your cities!

You americans will have to face this problem 'together'...yep. :) The 'socialist way', all for one and one for all. Hahaha

Take a look at this video and weep.  "WAR IS ON!" :)

Species, I don't know what is more distressing: your cynical, condescending grasp on American politics and culture, or your reading of an obsolete academic text about a real, living, growing ecosystem. The man pages have everything you need, bro!

A couple things: Your use of the phrases 'You americans' and 'Very simple. You people in the states [...]' denotes a smirking superiority that can only be European, and I don't know if you've been watching your own news lately, but Europe has plenty of its own problems. What is going on there in Eurooe?   Europroblems? How is Iceland? Greece? How goes the immigrant problems in the Netherlands?

Now, I'm no American, and I don't ever plan to be one. But your snide allusions to Socialism are off-base, and flat-out ridiculos. Europe has Socialism; America has community.

So you can save your smug suppositions, wrap them carefully, turn them sideways, and shove them up your ass.

LOL- I think you forgot 25% unemployment in Spain and Italy. And the Greeks trying to jump ship. Also, didn't Amsterdam flood not too long ago? Water can be cleaned up, a society rotting under tax-evasion and decades of mismanagement cannot.

That kind of condescension is adorable though. You want to talk about pulling together and helping each other, then do everyone a favor and help by not gloating over someone else's misfortune. If you want to help, shut the hell up. Those are human beings, not images on your magic screen.
