Dedication to everybody who made it through Round 3. In the words of Angel Eyes: "Yep. It's getting tougher." The last round was absolutely grueling. It's almost a pity winners had to be declared for those battles, because the stories were all highly competitive. My hat's off to everybody for the effort they put into kicking some mad ass this last round.
So look across the battlefield. Take a good long look. That could be the last face you see here.
Welcome to Round 4.
Fucking aye. I barely made it out of the last round alive. Now I think i'm starting to get WAR psychosis. My whole world is becoming a plotline. You are all characters. I am starting to think I might have to kill you all before this is through. This is my rifle, this is my gun.
Look out J.Y. I just primed my charges and smeared on the camo face-paint.
Here I was thinking the prompts would be out by now. I never get psyched until I've read that new PM with my prompt. In the meantime, it's so quiet I can hear birds.
Crazy that there's only four of us left.
Prompts are sent.
Good luck to you all.
I have oiled my sap and polished my heater. Meet me in the field on this, the night of the lotus eaters. - utah
Nice, nick cave. You into the Grinderman stuff as well?
My whole world is becoming a plotline. You are all characters. - WickedVoodoo
lol
The Prop. was pretty good. Cave's a good writer. I never read his novels but I still have an old copy of King Ink 1 - weird, somewhat adolescent, angsty sexual stuff.
JY. GIMME. I WANT THAT NOW.
Go warriors!!! And a special "good luck!" to Beka, the last girl standing! I'm sure it's going to be fun.
@Type - What, the King Ink?
Oh, wow, I just looked at used copies on amazon and they start at $28 for a worn, creased "good." Someone's trying to get $125 for a brand new. EDIT - (I looked at this and thought, "That could be taken as genuine surprise at the going price, or a sarcastic 'fuck-off.'" It was the first.)
good luck all, i plan on hanging out and voting still, i look forward to your work.
Wait, I'm confused, so JY and Moon are writing a story together or is that a tribute to Moon in spirit? Either way, Utah better not win, kick his ass Becky. He can't be defender and Master of War, his head will get too big. lol
Pretty sure J.Y. is going alone in Moon's place. That's how it worked for the last round anyway, at least I thought that to be the case.
Yes - JY is working alone.
^Yes. R. Moon did the first two rounds. Looks like Utah stuck my name on the chart in the previous rounds.
Here's my schedule for this week.
Tonight - write WAR story
Tomorrow - write story for second Garrett Cook and Bradley Sands workshop assignment.
Tues through Thursday- nightshift work at the hospital and sleep.
Friday through start of next week- set off across country to grab a chance to spend time with the girlfriend.
I'm halfway through my WAR story already. I'm determined to finish a first draft before I go to bed. I have to, I am just not going to get time to get everything done otherwise. I am already gonna have to do my editing for both these stories during my breaks at work, and after I get home in the mornings, which is not ideal.
Gonna be a crazy week. I figure I am going to have earned my mini holiday to the missus's after this.
WAR is bad for your health. Who'd have guessed? I am loving it though. I must be a sado-masochist.
Bring it on!
@Martin - Are you even a person?
Welcome to the losers bench guys! Plenty of space to kick your feet up.
@ Rebecca - almost. I'm working on it.
I didn't quite make my goal of finishing the first draft last night. I have had to spend some time today finishing it off. Almost done. Today's story for my other assignment will have to wait until this evening to get started.
I don't always abuse myself like this. The past few weeks have just turned out to be a bit over-hectic. I have probably written more in the last six weeks than I did in six months before that. Once WAR is over, and the bizarro workshop, I will probably have a bit of a rest for a couple of weeks, mostly so the typing-ache in my fingers lets up.
Those still looking avenge WAR defeats may want to sate your blood thirst by moseying on over to the Thunderdome and picking a fight. That thread has been quiet since these battles have broken out, understandably so. Literary battles become addictions. Trust me.
The last WAR round defined the word "epic", so I can't wait to see what comes out of this one.
Yesterday was not a good day for me. I've got my idea but I had no plot. Luckily I plotted my way to sleep last night, so the stress is easing up. Slightly. Only slightly.
P.S. I'm SUPER excited about this one, so you watch your back, Utah!
I reread my story from last round and found a couple of basically inexcusable errors: words out of order, missing prepositions. I'm still surprised it won.
Also, since I haven't talked any shit yet, ehem...
You're all going to die and when you do you'll all go to hell.
Happy Mondays!
@Utah: Fine. Then I'll just stab you in the face!
Good luck you guys and congrats on getting to the final four.
I hope you all win.
Enjoy your mugs, you bastards.
Also, since I haven't talked any shit yet, ehem...
You're all going to die and when you do you'll all go to hell.
Going to die? I am death.
Go to Hell? I am Hell.
Hope you've been busy drawing salt circles, Mr Hopkins. You are going to need them.
Ha.
@Danny - One of these days we'll all have mugs and a badass story to go along with how we got them. At least that's my thought, anyway.
I draw salt circles with only the finest crystals straight from Mount Sodom and the Dead Sea. I sprinkle Biblical characters on my scrambled eggs. Scrambled demon eggs with Cthulhu bacon.
Well met, sir. Lock and load.
can i just be bitter and say i already have a mug? :-) and did i mention that i just got a literary agent? what, you didn't hear that yet? lol...this is richard losing, it's not a pretty picture.
forgive me.
"...this is richard losing, it's not a pretty picture."
This is another loser snickering to herself.
...hee hee hee!
YEAH DRUNK FIRST DRAFT`!
How are the rest of you doing?
Due to technical issues -
Instead of posting your prompt under your title, I will post it in the first comment of the poll thread as I did the poems last round.
Thank you!
How are the rest of you doing?
1/4 - 1/3 done. This one's probably going to come in close to the buzzer, unlike last round.
"unlike last round."
Yeah - I was a little worried that I hadn't gotten yours yet.
My story is largely finished. I am hanging on it yet though, because I am still hoping to get chance to fiddle about and edit it a little.
Whether or not it's any good is another issue. We'll see. Hopefully that's just my usual pre-deadline paranoia setting in.
I've got my shit draft done. Had to get pretty drunk to turn off my inner editor, but now I can spend the next few days taming this thing. I feel a bit better but I've still got a good chunk of work to do.
Started over tonight - whole new story - 800 words in.
Martin and Rian. It's going to be a bloody freaking battle.
mine's in great shape, really looking good. oh, wait, i'm out.
I've been a bad mood all week. It's like a back and forth.
Well I'm in a good mood. One more shift then I get a mini-holiday. Yay.
Probably gonna send my story over tomorrow, no last-minute deadline racing shenanigans this time.
I've been pretty damn dehydrated all week. The alcohol at night followed by coffee in the morning routine doesn't balance itself out, so I've been chugging tea every morning, but I'm always tired and I hate everything!
But it's raining today, and I love the rain, and I let myself lie in bed for an extra hour before getting up, so I enjoyed myself for once.
Martin and Rian. It's going to be a bloody freaking battle.
I think Rian's still out, right? Am I missing something? Is this some kind of scam?
mine's in great shape, really looking good. oh, wait, i'm out.
lol
LOL!!!!!!
Yes. Rian is out of the competition. Haha - no fair skipping a round then coming back for the finals!
