Thx will do plus I still got to put those packages together :-) I got one good story out of it. I'm sure it'll be placed in a good home in a short time. Fortunately I used the contest to write a short story that could be compiled with the rest of my short stories so that brings me one step closer to completing a collection. The timing was funny bec the moment it became obvious I couldn't win I received a text from my writing partner in l.a. So once I finish up one last short story for thunderdome I'm going to be bootie deep in screenplay. :-) I've got a box of notes for that and it's time to pump that shiz out. This was a great opportunity to get in that mode.

Great! Glad you enjoyed your time here. I'll look for your thunderdome story. And, from now on I refer to you as noirkitty. That's how I know you. :) sucks you lost here, I was hoping we'd go up against each other. When all is said and done here we'll have to thunderdome it up.

@Nikki, where you going, wait! There's still time until Sunday. Isn't it? I mean, it may not be much, still 3 days of voting.

Or has it been anticipated? Hey! I wasn't told! Still have to run a couple machups!

Nikki Guerlain's picture
Nikki Guerlain from Portlandia March 22, 2012 - 11:09am

@flaminia i was spanked so hard there is no way i can catch up given three weeks let alone until sunday. i know, it sucks. i think i will always lose out in the beginning no matter how wonderful my writing is because my content is so disturbing and i'm not willing to play it safe for a contest. i mean, seriously, my story was written really well and to get spanked so hard ... i mean, geez! are you fucking kidding me?

i write short stories because i really enjoy doing them and because they act like business cards for me- not to win contests. i mean, i'm willing to temper myself for screenwriting because i can make money off that but, that said, the only reason i'm writing an actor's passion project right now is because he read "Sick Ticket" and "Bitchin Vans & Bloody Hippies" and saw that not only was i an excellent writer with a huge imagination but i was also willing to take risks. i mean shit, in "Sick Ticket" Marilyn Monroe's limbless body gets fist fucked by the devil in Venice Beach ... so i urge all you other losers to keep chugging on and be bold.

good work is polarizing. i mean, palahniuk couldn't get invisible monsters published so he got really pissed and wrote fight club. And jean auel was told by the first publisher she took Clan of the Cavebear to that she'd never get that thing published anywhere, ever. But the very next publisher she took it to offered her a $500,000 advance and that was what? like 30 years ago.

@utah i'd actually prefer to just resign now and have my work pulled from the site as i've already sent it out and should hear back from one of the two places in the next few days. Plus i think it'd be awesome for meat seeker to know all week (if she doesn't already) that she's a WINNER and she spanked my sorry ass.

Okay.  Nikki, you did awesome and you went out like a champ.  You're a great writer and there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the twisted shit you put on paper.  Thank you for being with us and lending your talent and reputation to WAR.  I'll pull your story.

Meat Seeker advances to the next round, where she will pit her mad skillz against the twisted might of he with the soul of an alien who is somehow affiliated with the number 77.

Can we know which story Nikki wrote since she bowed out. Is that okay with you Noirkitty?

Nikki Guerlain's picture
Nikki Guerlain from Portlandia March 22, 2012 - 11:33am

@utah thx for the kind words and for pulling my story! and someone just messaged me with regards to me leaving this site. i'm not leaving the site. i just want my story pulled so there's less risk of a leak. no reason to have it up since i've lost and have already sent the piece out. but glad to know i would've be missed if i did!

i'm not that fickle! i mean i didn't expect you all to be soooo conservative but i can still benefit from the input of you guys- at least some of you.

i will be voting on future rounds. and i just want to say that i will vote for the piece that is the most interesting that takes the most risks even if it is flawed- because it can be reworked and be published. whereas the most polished piece of crap story is still just a shiny turd.

this is going to be fun. i can't wait for next week to start.

EDIT: i'm fine as long as Utah is with revealing which story mine was. i mean most people already know. i don't see the harm.

p.s. ther's nothing like a good upset. good job meat seeker!

wickedvoodoo's picture
wickedvoodoo from Mansfield, England is reading stuff. March 22, 2012 - 4:40pm

I read the last two matches and Danny's story earlier today and put in my final votes.

Many thumbs up to each and every participant. So many good stories. Some matches were really hard to vote for. I voted without looking at any of the results beforehand and ended up mainly going with the consensus, though I think three times I went for the underdog. Also, brutal to see a couple of matches are still tied. The suspense!

The more stories I read the less confident I became about picking out authors too. Some I have no idea but can't wait to find out. The ony ones I would bet money on getting right are Richard's and Dakota's along with Covewriter's and Flaminia's. I also nailed Nikki and Meat's matchup before the big reveal.

I now have to vote in the best-of thread. Hmm. Tough call. The authors of The Executioner's Son, Vision Quest, ATTN: Human Resources, and Quarter Tank of Gas should all be taking bows. And Danny, King Me was cool too. Hmm indeed.

Nikki Guerlain's picture

If you read the posts IMO you wouldn't be confused but I will lay it out for you. I lost fair and square so I asked for my story to be pulled so I can get on with it being published. I don't appreciate not cool comments IMO.

If you have a problem with me take it up with me. I'm actually really cool. I'm not throwing a fit. If you read the posts I explain exactly what I'm doing.

It's all biz. Nothing personal. It's a small world really no need to be making enemies you know?

I'm not making enemies, i didn't think. I thought people say what they think here, maybe not.  I'm sorry you are leaving. It just didn't seem right to me. I'm sorry. If you won you would have also pulled your story?

Covewriter's picture
Covewriter from Nashville, Tennessee is reading & Sons March 22, 2012 - 9:33pm

I guess i don't understand the business that well. Can't you submit your story somewhere even if you put it up on this site?  I'm sorry if i spoke without knowing the way it works. Apologies

Nikki Guerlain's picture
Nikki Guerlain from Portlandia March 22, 2012 - 9:34pm

if I won I would've pulled my story right away as I'm in the biz of getting shiz published and noticed. I rarely share my work with this many people before publishing. Just a very few souls. So if there's no need to have it up I don't see the harm on pulling it to maintain control over my work.

If this is a problem then next time war is done it can be stated that the work stays up for the entire competition but I don't see how that would benefit the voting process etc. It's all good. Honestly I thought the competition is going great with very few probs and I have a lot of love for @utah et al I mean what an accomplishment to pull this off! Crazy.

Nikki Guerlain's picture
Nikki Guerlain from Portlandia March 22, 2012 - 9:38pm

@covewriter you can publish the piece even if you've posted it here but personally i rather be able to give my publisher primary access to a piece. I think it's safest to yank all your copies down when you place a piece or before hand if there is no purpose behind its exposure.

It's all good really. I think it's safe for you to leave your work up but ive already sent mine out.

Richard's picture

^can't believe you lost, nikki. sorry to see you get knocked out. but yeah, for sure, pull the story, i'd do the same thing, and will likely pull all of my stories after the competition is over too, if i'm submitting them. if a story is READABLE, @coverwriter, or if you Google search and can find it via a title, then yeah, it's considered published. that's why nikki is pulling her story. lots of "upsets" i imagine.

now i have to go see what story was yours. i have a guess.

Honestly I love the interweb but it's made everything really complicated. Gets harder and harder to maintain control and privacy.
