Hey all! My name's Ric(k) from a small town in Missouri. I'm currently active duty military stationed in Colorado Springs. I'm not going to lie, growing up I hated writing. Every year the school I went to would decide to put me into the advanced language classes and every year I would request to be put into the normal class. Mostly because I didn't care for the homework, but also because I didn't care for the homework. Now that I'm a little more grown I'm starting to understand why the school decided to keep me in all the "smert" classes and have grown to love writing.

At the moment I wouldn't consider myself a "writer" per say. I currently have two short stories that I believe to be completed. I'm definitely not an everyday writer, but I expect that to change in the near future.

While I may not write everyday, I do try and read. This year I'm currently sitting at 74 books finished and yes. I am 100% tooting my own horn. I'm dreading the horrible number 100 which Palahniuk describes as the moment whenever he was able to determine whether a story was going to be good or bad just from the first few pages. If a book is bad, I want to know why. If a book is good, I also want to know why. I believe this is a huge step in growing as a writer as well as an everyday reader.

I realize this is pretty much the stereotypical introduction of "I write, read, and this is me" so if there are any other questions just ask. I'm not really one to talk about myself because I know everything about me and sometimes forget others don't.

I look forward to being a member of LitReactor and can't wait to see how I grow from being in the community.

Welcome Ric,

First off, if you write, you are by definition a writer. Don't sell yourself short.

You've come to the right place. Everyone is super helpful. There's coffee around here somewhere, but we're all writers, so if you find it, its probably already gone.

Looking forward to reading your work!

Hey Ric, welcome.

I'm at thousands of books and let me tell you by then you'll accept anything that shows promise. Then there is the problem of not having enough time to read the good stuff you should read but isn't in your prime area of interest.

I agree with your 'maybe not write everyday but read everyday' stance, it's gotten me nowhere but hey, if more people do it...I do however write every day, most of it is not for public consumption as it is directed to consulting parties but even then I was admiring my handiwork just an hour ago. Toot away, I just did, and we have the end result of all that tooting in the picture above.

Jump in the water is fine, and very few cannibals are swimming by, they self identify by the way, looking forward to your eforts.
