Alrighty, here's the latest calendar...

Me vs Tucson - to post in the next few days. (Spiderclown prompt)

Holly vs Sound - to post (next?) Sunday. (McQueen prompt)

Nathan vs Sound - to post at a future date to be determined. (Bloody girl prompt)

If I'm mistaken, please correct me. If you're not on the list, you can be put on the list by challenging someone. It's fun. All the cool kids are doing it.

You wanna be cool... doncha?

Poor Nathan.  Competed fair and square and without having to exercise his superhero admin skills to throw the contest in his favor...

@Nathan, I got a good start on my story today. Let's say, this upcoming Sunday with an option to extend till Wednesday? (I really think I'll finish Sunday, though) :)

@Holly, I'm stumped with our prompt, FYI. I'm hoping something will come to me soon!

We've had three battles completed so far, and another three are on the horizon or in limbo. I'm pleasantly surprised to see this getting some momentum, but I'd also encourage more/different people to get involved in this fun, generative activity. If you need more short stories for a collection, this is a good way to generate material. If you want to shake the rust off your dormant writing mind, this is a good way to get back into the gym of creativity. If you just want to fuck around with a bunch of cool people and see what you can come up with, this is a good way to get to know your fellow LR members without the antiseptic "greetings" and lurking on threads for months.

Lit battles are for the bold, the beautiful, the bloated, the bulemic, the Bolivian, the bastards, the brain surgeons, the banditos, the Best Buy cashiers, the bourgeoisie, the bonobos, and the rest of us who want to have fun, write stuff, and see what happens next.

Get in there, folks!!!

@Sound: no worries.  I love the prompt, and have started my story, but my writing juju has been off as of late.  If you message me here and I don't reply within a day or two, please PM me.  I haven't been on the site much (no offense intended my lovely BT boys 'cause this thread makes me laugh!)

Just checking in with all the competitors...

How are we all doing? There are three contests kind of drifitng in limbo here, so anyone care to give an update or set a date for when you're gonna post for reading/voting?

@Strange Photon

You seem to be running this Thunderdome 2.0 it's good to see it returning. If you ever need a hand I'd be happy to help. When the competors finish do they post in the regular workshop?

Nathan Scalia's picture

Sound, are you ready to go tonight? I'm fine with the possible extension to Wednesday that you mentioned you might need. Let me know.

Nathan, I'm just about finished and should a draft late tonight. look forward to seeing what you got! :)

Strange Photon's picture

Hey Jimothy, thanks for the offer!

It's kind of a self-guided missile, and I just try to keep everyone on the same page as far as time frames, prompts and the like. The way we've been doing it with posting is to post the stories in a poll thread here in the discussions forum. Both stories are posted without names or identifying info, so people reading can do their best at being impartial. We shied away from posting in workshop because that limited participation on both competitors and readers/voters.

If you ever feel like jumping into a battle, go for it! Even if you have no one specific you want to challenge, you can just ask someone to go and I imagine somebody will take you up on it PDQ.

Sound, if you're still finishing, you want to post tomorrow? I am not going to be up too late tonight on account of an interview tomorrow.

@Strange Photon: I think @Sound and I are in limbo right now with our prompt (which is fine given I just posted a piece in the Workshop that I wrote for a publication contest.)  Whenever's Sound's ready (this Little Italian Girl can't resist a Steve McQueen prompt!)

That said, @Sound, keep me apprised on your progress.

I've been held up with an unforseen thing (see that list that Dwanye always posts here). But that's behind me. So I'll mail Photon tonight. Sorry and apologies.

Strange Photon's picture

No worries at all, Tucson. I have often flaked on these sorts of things, and in WAY worse ways, so you've no need to apologize.  :)

Strange Photon's picture

And it really IS a good one. So far, almost all of them have been decided by a single vote, maybe two. Once you're done reading and voting on Sound v. Tucker, you should challenge someone, S!!!

I would love to get a prompt. And the other thing my writing needs...a deadline. Anybody want to battle? I've been away from the site for a while, but would like to jump back in. Anyone??

SRead's picture

I'm game, Meredith! I've been away as well. Would be great to dive back into the ring and bloody my knuckles a bit.

what's your preferred word count, Meredith? 2-5k? One week from today?

voodoo_em's picture

@Meredith - Ahh what a tempting offer! And usually I would be hell yeah, but I am tweaking and polishing a story for submission before an impending deadline. And I really want to make it as good as I can...so no fights for me, at least for a week anyway ;)

I'm excited to see what you guys come up with!!

Adam Jenkins's picture

I've just finished a round of tough edits, a few days ahead of schedule. I need a palate cleanser before I go in hard again on the next round.

I have never participated in Thunderdome before. I've been sorely tempted, but the timing has never been right. I'd love to call out my old boss, Jonathan Riley, to take my Thunderdome virginity. If I'm going to get annihilated (and I usually do at these things), I can think of no nicer bloke to lose to. Are you around, JR? Do you have the time to school me at this here contest thing?

Strange Photon's picture

Wow... thunderdome virginity... that sounds like a kick-ass xtian punk rock band. :D

Adam Jenkins's picture

As the virgin in question, I'm not sure kick ass punk rock is right for me. At least lets turn the lights down low, and stick some Barry White on.

Cue someone suggesting a threeway.

I believe our battle is going to close tomorrow, so if you haven't had a chance to vote yet, now's the time to do it.

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics June 27, 2015 - 10:55am

Also, Adam, if you haven't already messaged JR privately, that would be a good way to see if he's up for a battle. If he bows out of your virginal defloration, you can always challenge others.

Adam Jenkins's picture
Adam Jenkins from Bracknell, England is reading RCX Magazine (Issue 1 coming soon) June 27, 2015 - 11:03am

Yes, dropped him a line on fb. Otherwise I'll open myself up to anyone. I'm easy like that.

SRead's picture

Could someone with the know-how outline the instructions for posing a poll thread? I see the "add poll" button, and I can kinda see how it might be done, but any hints would be helpful!

Meredith and I will be doing battle tomorrow, if I have my days straight!

Meredith_103's picture
Meredith_103 June 30, 2015 - 4:48pm

Yes, tomorrow is the day. I'm still writing but will wrap it up soon. Can I PM you tomorrow and we can work out the details of posting the poll? It probably won't be first thing in the morning if that's okay with you.

Pending Battles:

Sound vs Holly (McQueen prompt)

SRead vs Meredith (Zipper Woman prompt)

Myself vs. Tucson (SpiderClown prompt)

and... maybe... Adam vs. JR ???

Any others I missed? Also, care to give updates on when we might be witnessing these eagerly anticipated battles?

Don't forget, people... ANYONE CAN BATTLE ANYONE... you don't have to be a paid member.

Jonathan Riley's picture

Yes, I acept Adam's battle. I still have a weird schedule for a bit with spurts of busy and spurts of leisure so I'm going to agree to a soft Deadline of say, 7-16, two weeks from today. I think I should have enough free days in there to bang something out. But I'd like the prompt now, so I can let it perculate on my busiest days. Adam and I talked and it is cool. I'd say 1500-3000 word count. Go ahead and drop a prompt. Thanks!

That is certainly dark, but the seed is germinating. I have an idea that might just work.
