Holy fuck nuggets that's a great prompt!!!

It's on, Moonpie!

(details to be arranged a little later, seeing as I just woke up)

Glad you guys like the prompt. (When I saw it, it was perfect)

Now go read our battle. Now!!!

Please.

Downloaded both stories and am in the process. One is quite long, so patience, young Jedi.

I've read them JR. Both are great. I haven't voted yet. Having to think about it :)

I would also like to jump right into the pit and challenge VooDoo_Em to a battle! Do you accept? :) Also, if by chance Mr. Utah is still lurking around, I'd like to challenge him as well. This can be a battle royale type thing.

Great prompt, JR. Too bad I cant use the Allison Layne story. The girl is a perfect fit.

So, Moon over Miami, whadda ya say we shoot for next Tuesday, by midnight, for drafts, and get the poll up on Wednesday. I think that's the 3rd of June if I'm not mistaken. If that's cool with you, s'cool with me.

Also, word count? Do we want to go with the traditional 2-3k window, or more, or less, or just open to whatever we can swing? I'm easy on that regard.

voodoo_em's picture
voodoo_em from England is reading All the books by Chelsea Cain! May 26, 2015 - 1:33pm

Life is pretty hectic, but I can give it a go. Don't expect anything great tho :)

And for sure Utah can come stomp all over this battle too

Moon over Miami. I like that.

Next Tuesday is fine with me. I'm partial to whatever word count we can swing, I'd say nothing more than 4-5k, though. How about at least 2k, no more than 5k? Work for you?

Honestly the timing is pretty awful for me right now. Can we do a rain check?

Also, I am terrified of both of you.

Jonathan Riley's picture

@ Utah
You should be terrified. I did a three way with Sound and Em, they left me crying in the corner.

JK actually I faired pretty well. I like Sound's tactic of calling out last years War King and. Runner up War Princess. Like I said during the three way. "Look at the balls on that one"

Is there an actual challenge pending between two writers or am I experiencing a major blonde moment and missed something above?  If nothing else, I'd like to vote on the dueling stories (assuming there's a duel of writers in place.)  Tell me where/when to vote.

Too many guys involved in this thread...: )

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics May 27, 2015 - 12:12pm

A summary of recent events...

Sound and I wrapped up a match yesterday. He was victorious. (that magnificent bastard)

Tucson and J.Riley have started the voting portion of a match. One can download their stories and subsequently vote from this thread: https://litreactor.com/discuss/beyond-thunderdome-battle-tucson-vs-jr

Sound and Voodoo_Em have just started the writing portion of a match, to be posted to vote on @ the middle of next week.

Myself and Darkside of the Moon (R.Moon) have also just started the writing portion of a match, also to be posted to vote on @ the middle of next week.

Anyone is free to read/vote on the Tucson v. Riley match currently, and anyone is free to challenge anyone else to start their own match. If you want to battle, but don't know who to challenge, you're also free to just offer yourself to the first responder.

Hope that helps.

Moon Unit

Feel free to cop any of those

I'll offer myself up against the next willing participant.  If anyone wants to accept, PM me or just accept here.

Not to take away from the verbal tango between Photon and Moondance above, but yes, Sound, I accept!  I appreciate that I didn't have to wait and weed through a number of messages about Lunar-inspired nicknames for someone to accept.

June 6 is great.  Let me know the deets and the rest since I'm new to this.

You know what's silly? I've written only one thing for a LitReactor contest, and that was back during Teleport Us before I got on staff.

I also haven't written anything in a while.

I also have never played in the Thunderdome before.

So I'll put myself out there for a challenge. I can't promise that I won't manipulate the scores using my admin powers, but I do promise it'll be hilarious if I do.

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics May 28, 2015 - 8:55am

Sweet! Our fearless leader is going to put his words where his fingers are... er... yeah. You know what I'm trying to say.

Who wants to accept his challenge???

Holly Bella Toschi's picture
Holly Bella Toschi from San Francisco is reading "Dance Dance Dance" May 28, 2015 - 9:00am

If I wasn't already engaged, I would.  The thought of going against someone with proclaimed "admin powers" is enticing in that of itself...like challenging Batman and the Batmobile in a drag race...

Hey, don't put me on a pedestal. I got this job because I have experience managing forums. Many of you are better credentialed than I am, writing-wise.

Strange Photon's picture
Strange Photon from Fort Wayne, IN is reading Laurie Anderson lyrics May 28, 2015 - 10:15am

Perhaps, but do any of us look better than you do in a cowl and a cape? I, for one, think you're a sexy beast in spandex/leather. Maybe we've had manlier mods in here before - even the female ones - but they didn't have the whole super-package... so to speak.

Now... come on, people. Someone accept Holly's challenge already! The world is no fun until everyone is on the brink of life and death.

Literarily speaking, of course.

Holly Bella Toschi's picture
Holly Bella Toschi from San Francisco is reading "Dance Dance Dance" May 28, 2015 - 10:43am

Photon, don't you recall the prompt you posted for Sound and me above yesterday?  Steve McQueen?  Probably the best prompt I could get given "Bullitt" was modeled after my cousin in real-life (albeit my story isn't a literal interpretation of the photo prompt, of course.)

As for Photon's assertions about Nathan in a cape and cowl--that's a visual I'm going to ignore (albeit I'm sure Nathan looks splendid in leather, lace, whatever.)  I just entered the Thunderdome arena weeks ago on a whim.  Took me a while to determine if my "girly prose" could handle the testosterone-dominant sword-swaggering talents of ya'll... : )

NIce to see this fun little contest get rocking and rolling again. I'm game for some carnage. Let's dance, Nathan. Let's dance.

And I mean figuratively. Not literally. Unless you really want to and if that's the case, I suggest the cha-cha. Or the funky chicken. Definately not the mashed potatoes. What with my wonky hip and all.

Good luck!

Shit, that's right, Holly. My bad.

So, the running matches are Me vs. Keith Moon, Sound vs. Voodoo_Em, Sound vs. Holly, and now NateDog vs. Tucker.

Since I've posted a couple prompts in a row, I don't want to be a prompt-hog. Anyone else care to present a prompt for Nate v Tucker?

Holly Bella Toschi's picture

Sure. 2500k (even 3000k) is cool.  Now I'm getting scared...the battle is really happening! LOL!

Bill Tucker's picture
Bill Tucker from Austin, Texas is reading Grimm's Fairy Tales (1st Edition) May 29, 2015 - 2:57pm

Hmmmmm...I keep leaning towards a 2,500 - 3,000 word count but fancy rocking some flash to keep things a little spicy? 1,000 words?

To be fair, I'm a big flash fiction fan, so if you're not, we can totally do the standard 2,500 - 3,000 word count. Just thought it would be a slightly different battle if we did it flash style.

As for deadline, how does a week from today sound? Final pieces due 6/5 at the stroke of midnight (CST)?

And that prompt. Yikes! Time to unlock my creepy side!
