i was talking today with someone about publishing, and she suggested i do this, so i can keep track of places i have submitted to (especially simultaneously) but i cant figure out how that should look/be done...

does anyone else do this?

if yes, how?

Well sort of similar: I use query tracker to keep track of my submissions to agents.

The spreadsheet shows the name of the agent, the agency, when I contacted them, when they responded and whether or not they replied favorably. I don't imagine it's much different for publishers

Eta: if you clickthrough to my blog, I actually posted a picture of the quertytracker spreadsheet.

Duotrope, brother.  You can export to a spreadsheet and sort by date of submission, place,  title of the piece, etc.
