In preparation for The Duo Competition I thought this would be a good idea. This would run similar to Beyond Thunderdome, in the way that I think it could manage itself.
- Grab a partner. Any. It doesn't have to be the one you're paired up with in Duo.
- Challenge another team.
- Teams get a week to submit a draft to the workshop. Another week for a final draft. Then polls. The submission can go under any teammate's profile. One teammate can be a member, while the other may not be. Then post under the one who is a member.
- Use picture prompts (JPEGS, GIFS). Create a story about that picture.
- 2,500 word max.
- Each teammate writes a half, or you can mix it. Either way both have to put the same effort.
- Communication is key. Use Skype, Instant Messenger, Email, VideoChat, VoiceChat, Facebook, Messenger Pigeons, etc.
I'm ready*.
*This is not a prompt**.
** Unless Panda says it is.
I have to check with my partner
It's a go! We're thrownin down the glove and all the Victorian proper stuff!
I have to wait and see on this beta test, I have like five things going right now--I mean Lit things.
prompt time?
That is what your brother sees everytime he looks out his fucking window.
so... wait. Which is the prompt?
Gracias!
Okay so the prompt is rainy night in the city, not pretty boy in the coat? Cause Bracchos and I had that one done hands down haha. (Joking.)
Anthony Perkins - suggestive Horror done well.
Or maybe the prompt is What is Pretty Boy Bates doing with those creepy eyes and creepy coat on that rainy city street at night?
No, too convoluted a prompt.
Panda - Bracchos and I are ready to post. Do i just put this in the workshop under the heading Team Slayer competition or something and explain we did it together for the competition? Any special way I should post it?
Oh gosh, who wants to be my partner? Panda?
Thanks Panda. Bracchos and I had a lot of fun writing together. I know we are up against two of the best writers here with you and Alien. But even if we don't win, we had a blast. I have to review one more workshop item before having enough points, then will post it - hopefully later tonight.
It's me and Charles King as Team Slayer.
Who is feeling brave enough to battle us?
I need a team mate.
It's me and Charles King as Team Slayer. Who is feeling brave enough to battle us?
no one, dude. remember when i signed up for the anthology and people immediately posted that they didnt want to have to follow me? people are scared of me.
Panda, for the two styles you mentioned, I guess we did a combination of both styles. One of wrote the first half and the other the second half. Then we went back and forth with the rough draft -- keeping just the one most recent draft in play at all times -- adding things and taking things out of each other's section of the story. You won't see a clear distinction as to who wrote the first and who wrote the second, I don't think, because we each ended up writing a lot of both. We kept discovering new things about the characters with each draft. Interesting.
The good thing about collaborative is that you get other people giving ideas. The bad thing is that you are a little less possessive of every detail. This has been so interesting. Thanks for the opportunity.
Looking for contenders.
To my contenders:
I think you won't ever see exactly eye to eye, but when someone says, hum, i think this guy should
be more stressed out, you can say, yea your right let's make him that way. I pictured a charactere blond, but when my partner made her with pitch-black hair in the second go-round, i was okay with it. Got to be fluid, yes? It's like adjusting to many different prompts. Questin: Will jacks and charles be in competitoin for the same prompt?
Shepherd, you want I should jump in with you against these guys?
I also have a lot of picture prompts, so people should keep challenging.
Let's do it renfield.
So, me and Shepherd vs. Jacks and Charles. This is going to be ugly (by that I mean your faces. Your faces are ugly, J & C (Nah, that's just the competitiveness speaking, you are both strikingly handsome men IRL (I hope that comment doesn't undermine my aggressive stance as an opponent (Fuck it, we are going to murderlize you anyway.))))
so, erm, Pandaprompt?
I'm a gambling man. Let's all throw up something nice and shiny to wager with. I'll wager something from my personal library. Something nice and shiny.
When does this start?
nice prompt!
Oh man, that prompt is Count of Egmont meets Fallout: New Vegas.
let's talk pomes here
I need to think more about picture prompts. I just don't pull much from them. To me they are usually only worth five words, tops.
I'm going to go stare at stuff. Think about it.
Me, I love picture prompts. The gas station is a great one. May consider jumping in with a partner if somebody was itching for a fight. Everytime I finish a Battledome I think, "Enough. Gotta take time for other things." but I think I'm getting additced to the competitive sprirt. Gotta see if my Duo partner is game for a challenge.
Alrighty, Courtney and I are in for a challenge if anybody is up for accepting one. Beware, our team name is "Bitches Get Stiches". You've all been forewarned.
