Hello all--

Just wanted to write a note and say hello and all, and also that I'm so glad to have found my way here (I am, right? ).  As you'll sort of see from my profile, I am...well, I was...a lawyer, and then this spring I sort of tricked myself into quitting so I could focus on writing. And that is going...well, it's like standing on the edge of a very steep cliff every day, the sort where you can't see the bottom and the sounds that reach yo are unpleasant.  Also, it's kind of fun. I'll be submitting and reviewing as I find my sea legs, and devouring the site and its offerings in the meantime.

Thanks for the welcome, ya'll!  I write modern fairytales, sometimes riffing off classic stories and myths, sometimes not.  More interesting (or not) things to tell:  I love perfume and have quite a collection.  If it's vintage and no longer produced or you can't buy it in the states, I've gone after it at some point! Animals keep me sane, and apparently I need quite a lot of them to maintain functionality: three dogs, six cats, eight hens and one horse.    I'm not a  movie person.  I've always been a voracious reader and usually have several books going at a time.  For the last year (actually, it turns out, the last, like, 25 years, but the last year in earnest) I've been battling chronic Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, which is a total *joy* [sarcasm].  I dislike desks and chairs and coffee shops and prefer to write curled up on a sofa or or perched on a bar stool (ideally, at a bar).  If I'm on a sofa, I am surrounded by cats and dogs, and flanked by my trusty Farah Fawcett coffee mug.

^ That kicked ass; a better sync-job than I've seen in real music videos with real people.

With luck (I'm not reliably good at this sort of thing), a photo is attached. The texture of the mug and lighting may make her a bit hard to identify, but that's Farah all along the bottom.

Karen, welcome! I'm an ex lawyer too. Sounds like you're enjoying your new freedom/soul, like I am.

Looking forward to reading some of your modern fairytales.

Welcome, ex-lawyerish person. Don't let these people fool you; no one here is a real person. People: maybe, persons, no.

@Mess_Jess--Yes, enjoying the freedom.  Just need to figure out that pesky income thing. I should be placing something into the workshop to be ripped apart soon...late last night I decided my entire premise for the story I'm working on/playing with was wrong, so there's been some "re-working."

@Riann--OMG!!! Thank you!!!! I have been trying to remember Andrew Vachss name for *months*!!! I devoured his novels in high school and wanted to track down his more recent work.  Seriously--random, but many thanks.

@Jeffrey Grant Barr--Is this like "we're all mad here," but different, a bit?
