I'm so stoked for this movie. I've been patiently waiting for it for so long.

Is it just me, or are superhero movies about fucked out by now? A spiderman reboot, the fucking avengers, and more batman... don't get me wrong, I love the characters, but man am I tired of the superhero movies.

Yeah, I'm kinda sick of the whole thing. I do want to see this, but a lot of my excitement was because I was going to see it with the girlfriend (I almost never go out for a movie), and now this and Prometheus are sort of boned for me because I'll probably have to see them alone. Or do my usual and wait for the Blu-rays DVDs.

No, she's right. He's fine as Bruce Wayne, but as Batman, he's got the stupidest sounding voice, all growly and fake deep, to where it's outright ridiculous. He sounds like cookie monster. Not sure how any director lets that one go. But whatever, the movies are good and make millions.

avery of the dead's picture

Pete - are you being serious?  Because I honestly don't know.

I love the idea of Batman.  But for me, none of the movies have ever properly captured him the way I always imagined him in my head.  Basically Batman the animated series was the definitive version in my eyes and I haven't cared for any of the movie versions.

I don't really like Christian Bale.

I also think Heath Ledger was a terrible actor.

I don't think anyone likes Christian Bale's Bat-voice. Still, he does good enough, and the movies are so much better than what came before. I never really got all the love of the animated series, but cartoons have never so much been my bag.

I think the Dark Knight movies have generally been good, though. And whatever you think of Heath Ledger, dude, come on, he was amazing as the Joker.

And yeah Jeff, I'm gonna see Prometheus either way. If I wasn't drunk already, I'd consider going right now!

Pete's picture

Avery - yeah, I was being serious. The only criticism I've heard of Bale as Batman was the stupid growly voice he does. Which wasn't as bad in the first one as in the 2nd one (at least I don't think). But over all - Nolan's (and Bale's) Batman is the best movie versions in my opinion.

I've always wondered how that Batman Year One animated DVD is. Has anybody seen that?

Pete, I've been waiting patientally as well, possibly even longer than you, kidding. I purchased my tickets a while back and cannot wait for midnight on the 19th. Everyone here complaining about superhero movies I tend to agree with, but not when it comes to Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy. I love every Chris Nolan film. Also, Prometheus was amazing, people who disliked it are no Ridley Scott fan and don't realize that it is supposed to have a sequel.

I thought Christian Bale was the best kid actor I'd ever seen, at the time when I saw Empire of the Sun. After that, I was waiting to see what he'd do when he grew up, and I wasn't disappointed. I know he's not everyone's cup of tea. But I like the Nolan trilogy with or without the voice (which I don't find that grating).

No such thing as a perfect movie.  If the voice gets a little cheesy sometimes (and it does) and that's the most common complaint, it's all good.  The Dark Knight films are my favorite superhero movies ever, comma, period.  I will be shocked if this one isn't at least as good as the first one.

Young punks. Tired of superhero movies? Are you effing kidding me?! I grew up with the TV Spider-man, a Mr. Universe in green paint for crying out loud as the Hulk (and that was considered GOOD), not to mention the craptastic Captain America TV stuff and I think they even did a Dr. Strange at some point.

Now they can make real superhero movies, and you're tired of them? It's geek nirvana when they're done correctly, and thanks to Nolan, Batman is being done correctly. The Avengers was good comedy/drama/action. Iron Man 1, Captain America, even Thor was okay (not great, but it didn't suck like an elctro-sucking machine).

Heath Ledger was nothing short of amazing as The Joker. The Dark Knight did so so many things awesome. Batman was actually really smart, which none of the prior movies captured adequately (except, of course, for the Adam West Batman. Nobody beats Adam West).

Still. Best. Batmobile. Ever.

I've just never been that into superheroes. They have their moments, but I didn't even bother to see Avengers because it looked boring. Just dudes flying around punching stuff doesn't really do it for me. I dig the Batman films because there's a lot more going on, not to mention a lot of that noir-y atmosphere.

I am myself somewhat fond of the "cookie monster" batman voice... it makes me laugh a little, I know how goofy it sounds, but it doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the films.

People hating on superhero movies, I just don't get that... is it something where you saw Avengers and then said "Fuck it, nobody is gonna top that" or did you guys not like Avengers either.

Spider Man reboot wasn't terrible, I mean, for sure it wasn't "necessarry" in some senses of the word, but in another, and fundamentally more important sense of the word it was necessarry. By which I meant that Sony is contractually obliged to make a Spider Man film every few years or else they lose the rights to make Spider Man movies. Sooooo.... I have a hard time blaming them for making a totally passable Spider Man movie.

Better than the last couple of Spider Man movies anyways.

now, let's see if I can make this work right...

Superhero movies are hit and miss with me. Loved Iron Man. Hated Iron Man 2. Didn't see Thor or Captain America or Avengers, but I'm yet to speak to a single soul who didn't like the Avengers. Will have to see that sooner or later. Agree about the Batman movies being a little different though. I know technically they're superhero movies, but these new ones are a step up from the rest.

Also, every time I think about them, it infuriates me that they didn't pick Donald Glover to be the new Spider-Man. So, fuck Hollywood. Sideways, in the ass, with a fistful of walnuts.

What's wrong with this thread? There should be little to no criticim for Bale's talent. He has not been in any bad movie because he puts 100%  into all of his roles. Keaton was good Clooney was mediocre but Bale? That guy knocks it out of the park by far there's a reason why they chose him and Ledger was also a damn good actor he flawlessly portrayed one of the most memorable villains of our time. And for Bale's mild pigsqueal he pulls while hes donning The Batman it's to mask his voice the point of a vigilante is not to be identified let alone talking like a popular playboy billionaire.

You're really going to complain about too many superhero movies? Why don't you complain about the countless mediocre horror films, generic action flicks, or the mindnumbing romcoms.

As for Bale, he's one of the few actors crazy enough to take on the role. I can't even imagine how much pressure goes into taking the role. He's a great actor, even if the gruffy and barely audible voice is odd.

Nolan's Batman films are great, unlike the previous attempts at the series. They have much deeper and elaborate plots.

As for what Avery said, Batman the Animated Series was the best representation of Batman and the characters within that universe.

Once Iron Man and the Dark Knight were released it showed that comic adaptations could be done well.

The previous Spider-Man films were shit. I really enjoyed this reboot.

Oh jesus, the complaints I have about horror movies. I am far more dismissive of, and angry at the disgusting glut of sub-sub-sub par horror flicks that clog the movie tubes. However, they are a genre unto themselves. At least the Friday the 13th and the Nightmare on Elm Street movies didn't piss all over the wonderful memories I have of scrounging under couch cushions to gather the 50 cents needed to buy an X-Men comic.

The Michael Bay Transformers movies pissed all over my childhood, hell, I even heard that they made crappy GI Joe movies....

At least with Iron Man and Batman movies I feel like Holywood has a modicum of respect for my childhood. Yeah, they're just trying to cash in on my childhood again, but at least they familiarized themselves with the source material first.

I'm all for superhero movies and shit but Transformers is seriously getting burned out. The first two were good but the third? I couldnt handle it. It seemed like they were trying to wring more plotlines out of it so enough is enough and they're in production for the fourth installment? Why???

What really killed it for me was that euro-model,

(hears "FAG" in the background)

I don't beleive her presence was even remotely necessary to be honest it was like she got hired to be a model more than being an actress. Please Michael Bay no more eye candy.
