Reading over your prompts, what I'm working on would fit issue three, so maybe I'll just shoot for that instead of trying to push myself under a deadline.

If you ever need film recommendations and reviews for surreal / strange movies, I'd be happy to oblige. I think the bizzare "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives" would be a good candidate. As for grotesque, I'm not a horror buff, but I'm sure I can come up with some good recommendations. REC and Audition immediately come to mind.

It's been about ten years since I wrote on music regularly, but I could put my hand up for that. My tastes are pretty far from the mainstream (background in 20/21st Century composition, nowadays leaning towards noise). Any names of what sort of music you'd be looking for?
(And yeah, I've been working on a piece but it's already over 1500 words. Might also be better suited to issue three too. Did you still want me to send it one once it's had a bit of spit and polish and slicing?)

Well send it my way anyway, Renee, I mean typo sent me an awesome story and its 3500 words but I'm considering it. If the quality is there it's worth printing. Jason and I are working on layout, trying to make sure the backgrounds are eye-grabbing but not overpowering the text and that the art blends with the articles and the stories seamlessly. I'm considering buying InDesign in the future to layout the next few issues after this. It's an expensive program but it might be worth it.
Anyway, here is an updated picture Peter sent me of the cover.

Hey Danny I sent you a PM about a potential submission. I don't want to waste your time with a formal submission if it ain't what you are looking for so I thought a gentle query might be in order.

I think the word count for Surreal Grotesque is what you would call "not hard". Although I have a feeling that overtime when you start getting a lot of submissions you'll probably start finding any reason you can to reject something and move on to the next submission, word length being one of those reasons. I know for a fact that a few of my stories have gotten rejected due to word length.

So the first issue is going to be 82 pages long!!!
It has some amazing art, stories and I've send out a preview to some close friends on litreactor and I have gotten great feedback. Just wanted to let you guys know that I was impressed with a lot of the stories in WAR and many of them were surreal strange and bizarre.
So if you guys wanted to rework or submit those you could.
Like Becky, your last two stories were awesome.
I put an ad up on duotrope but I'm only accepting a handful of it because I really want to put quality stuff in there. Don't be afraid to submit though and if you have something longer than 1500 words go ahead and send it over. I will publish some longer stuff if it's quality, also I am thinking about doing a serialized story which would run through a few issues. It would have to be very captivating though, something around 10K words that I would run pieces of through 4 issues.
Again, I am also seeking underground bands who want to get featured and their stuff heard and comic book type artists who would be willing to draw pictures to help illustrate specific stories. Thanks.

Thanks dude. Yeah, I like to paint and draw. You have some amazing artists involved here. Very cool stuff man. I dig it big time. I am not at that same level artistically, but I will try to get some better reproductions if you like the stuff. I would love to have something in future mags, or whatever because I don't really have a venue for my art. I'm lazy. I also have some cleaner stuff. Are your images going to be in color then? This one ain't quite done either, but it gives you an idea.

Yeah, it's a pdf mag so it will be in color. Would love to feature your art Chester in future issues! Your stuff would be a great fit for the Mutations and Mutilations issue.
If you have a lot of stuff, I could give you the 10 page issue spread. Every issue I am going to pick an artist to feature. I'm finding some awesome people off deviantart.

my idea of the grotesque, and this is just one opinion, is closer to the one held by Flannery O'Connor, here's a great article by her:
