The Seret World of Arriety is coming out this Friday (at least where I'm at).

What's your favorite Ghibli film and why?

I can't really choose between any but Princess Monoke is up there. It was the first one I ever saw.

I personally love these films.

A tie betwixt mononoke and totoro.

That's about the same for me. I loved Totoro. Some more of my favorites are Kiki''s Delivery Service and Spirited Away.

I like Spirited Away!

I hated it at first, but didn't get to finish it and couldn't get it out of my head, so I had to search it out and watch the whole thing.

My Neighbor Totoro is an all-time favorite since childhood. Mayazaki has some older, SF/F-type stuff that I'd like to check out, but I can't remember the titles. Supposedly very good. Tales from Earthsea, directed by his son, was also pretty entertaining.

Spirited Away was good.

Howls Moving Castle is one of the best animations I've seen though.

It is! I was depressed for days after seeing it. I'm serious too.

Totoro is my daughter's favourite movie. She drew me a picture of him that is pretty much my prized possession right now.

I love Totoro.

I used to draw him for fun. Did you put her drawing somewhere safe?

@ Alex. Are you talking about Nausicaa? I guess Laputa could fall under that categaory as well. They are some of the earlier Ghibli films.

I showed my cousins some Ghibli films a few years back and it got to the point that whenever I saw them they would grab my legs and yell, "Moving Castle, Moving Castle." That is all they wanted to watch when I was around.

I Personally liked Spirited Away and Totoro.

I haven't seen The Secret World of Arriety, My Neighbors the Yamadas, and Tales From Earthsea. I love all the ones I have watched.

@Panda, Sure did, it's inside a super safe book right now, and when I get a few bucks, it's probably getting inked on my forearm.

My biggest goal as a writer is to have Studio Ghibli make my book into a movie. Spirited Away was the first I saw, so it gets a special place in my heart. My favorite one though is Whisper of the Heart. I tend to get flack for that since it isn't as "magic-y" as the others, but I love it! ^_^

I haven't seen Grave of the Fireflies yet...I've been saving it for a moment when I wouldn't mind crying for a few hours.

That's exactly one of my main reasons. I'm serious.

I think Miyazaki is a genius and I would really like to visit the Ghibli Museum.

I like Whisper of the Heart, but I liked the Cat Returns more. Even though it is and isn't a sequel.

Toss up between Grave of the Fireflies and My Neighbor Totoro. Watched them both for the first time with my boyfriend, on Valentine's Day. We watched GotF first and bawled at the end. Thought we ruined our romantic night with the grief. Then we popped in Totoro and were giggling like we were little kids again. So much genuine childish glee in that movie, it's amazing. God, Studio Ghibli is incredible. I have every Ghibli movie on DVD except for Ponyo. Still haven't got around to it :(

Yeah it's really weird. The first time I saw Totoro I felt like I was a kid. Grave of the Fireflies was just wrecked me when I was done with it haha.

I do own all of them except Tales From Earth Sea.

It's hard to pick a favourite... It would usually be between one of Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle or My Neighbour Totoro, but The Cat Returns is so much fun too.

It is hard to pick. I like them all kind of equally.

Tales From Earthsea was such a bore. Pretty forgettable, especially compared to other Ghibli stuff. There was a part where the boy was watching the girl sing a song in a field and he watched her sing the WHOLE song and it was a terrible love song. The whole movie is like that.

PandaMask's picture

Yeah, Miyazaki's son directed that one. The only Ghibli movie I think to ever do that bad. He directed the last film they made, but it did really well and won a Japanese Academy Award.

I love Whispers of the Heart and The Cat Returns before bed time. Those movies are so soothing, I fall right to sleep.

But my favorite? Howl's Moving Castle. I love everything about that film, from the OST to the animation. I love the book as well! (The book is one of my all time favorites!)

I like Spirited Away, too... that is a close second. I tend to love the Ghibli films in English, though, and it's difficult to listen to all the unnecessary shouting from the main character. Oh, and Castle in the Sky is brilliant. Not one I watch on a regular basis, though.

Grave of the Fireflies left me feeling numb for a few days. I'm not opposed to watching it again, but only if I'm watching it with someone who hasn't seen it.

Arrietty was amazing! I loved it! It might replace Spirited Away as my number two slot.

But, yes... Howl's Moving Castle. Forever.

I want to read Howl's now.

Nausicca is another really good one, not too many mention that one.

The music by Joe Hisaishi is amazing. I listening to the soundtracks almost daily or every other.

Spirited Away for me!!! But I love Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo and Arietti!

I would really love Myiazaki to make a movie from my fantasy book...
