Hey everyone. I didn't do an intro, but I've met a bunch of you already. I'm pretty new, currently in a class (Suzy's), which is great. And finally writing again after, er...well never really starting to be honest. To anyone I haven't met yet, hi!

I need some help with a question I have. I'm writing a novel, which is sci fi, but very reflective of the real world. I'd like to put some real news articles in there. As in literally lift them from the BBC, CNN (or wherever) and insert them into the body of the text. Not copying the words, actually presenting them as news articles.

What's the deal with this? I could rewrite them, make up some fake news outlets etc. but the story loses some of the real world relevance if I do.

Can I do it, or are there any legal reasons why I can't?

Would greatly appreciate any thoughts or feedback you could offer.

You can't use logos or names of real news corporations (including the BBC) without written consent as otherwise its a breach of copyright. Best to create fake news corporations - so BBC becomes BNC (British News Corporation), CNN/CBS could be CBN, the Financiat Times changes to the Financial Charter, or whatever. Much easier than getting copyright permission and paying royalties for logo use, plus news corporations hate reporting fake news as its false, so they will probably refuse you flat out.
