Author interviews, lectures, etc.
In honor of the Teleport Us contest, here's a brief lesson from one of my favorite authors of short stories (especially science fiction).
This clip of Joyce reading from Ulysses is awesome.
[Actually, it's from Finnegan's Wake. Ubu listed it wrong; and I haven't read either book (not that I claimed to have, or would have to have to enjoy hearing this mp3.)]
{I was pretty sure it was from Finnegan's Wake, but when I looked for the link, Ubu had it paired with a story about Joyce recording a reading from Ulysses. It mentions Ulysses and then says he read from "Anna Livia Plurabelle" without mentioning the fact that this reading was from a book other than the one they'd been talking about for several paragraphs. Anyway, I already admitted I haven't read either book, which doesn't matter. Just listen to it.}
I watch too many of these. It substitutes my old addiction to DVD commentaries.
The a/v is jacked up in this one but it's worth watching
I watched all the little Junot Diaz lectures on youtube a while ago before reading Oscar Wao. He's ridiculously engaging. I think this video is one of the better iirc, skip ahead to like 9 minutes in.
