...I'm a man of wealth and taste.

I'm not the Devil though.  I just dig the Rolling Stones.  With how many allusions to music I'm going to make here, I figure it's a solid way to kick things off.  Why ease in?

Not sure what to say, other than I'm here, and I'm hoping to be part of a functioning writing community.  Let's see what I can learn from you, and hopefully you can pick some things up from me.

Favorite Authors: Stephen King, Brandon Sanderson, John Steinbeck, Jonathan Maberry, Dan Simmons, and Ernest Hemingway.

Go ahead and follow me on Twitter @Purplehayes6128. I try to post clever things, but I'll let you decide.

To be fair, we are more a dysfunctional writing community a lot of the time.  But it works.

You like some good authors, so you can stay.  I hope you enjoy it and don't be shy.

Welcome!

Nothing in Donnie Darko counts, I am pretty sure it was all a dream. Except for getting hit by that plane engine. That was real.

Do I get a free lecture on musical taste if I tell you I'm only aware of that song because my ex-boyfriend played the ending to Interview with a Vampire incessantly, proclaiming it the best end to a movie ever? I need one, my musical taste is stunted at grunge and Childish Gambino. Also, I followed you on twitter -- I'm @courtneysthird. (It's my third twitter. I don't do much more than bitch about having to put on pants.)

I can't possibly top Howie's wit (that was one of those rare, actually laughing-out-loud moments), so I'm simply going to answer the pop quiz at face value:

1. Who is your favorite author that goes more than a first and last name?

Henry David Thoreau

2. What is the most exotic condiment you have in your home?

College student. Fortunate to have an apartment, but still pretty broke. So... ketchup.

3. What is the name of the last mathematical concept you recall learning?

Hm... Took Math 101 last semester here at NIU (put it off for so long). Let's go with Standard Deviation.

4. What is your favorite Patrick Swayze movie that isn't Point Break?

The Outsiders (I suppose that falls into the ensemble category... oh well).

Courtney, I assure you that I enjoy the Guns N' Roses cover that plays during the credits just fine. :)

Thanks for the warm welcome.

And to answer an early question, I find myself writing a lot of horror as of late.  But I'm trying my hand at a script for a movie me and a friend want to shoot that's a little different for me.  More on that... when I have more than an opening scene.

Courtney's picture

I'm glad it counts! I was never a big fan of Guns n Roses, but I did like the song. He put it on a mix-tape for me and would play it incessantly.

I've never been great at horror, but I love reading it. Stephen King, however, is one of my least favorite writers.

I thought I pasted my answers to the pop quiz in my last reply... I had taken four Benadryl, so I hope I'm excused for my failure to answer. Here are the ones I came up with:

1. Who is your favorite author that goes more than a first and last name?
Does Hubert Selby, Jr. count since Jr. is part of his name? If not, Hunter S. Thompson.

2. What is the most exotic condiment you have in your home?
I have a very picky palate, so probably ranch dressing.

3. What is the name of the last mathematical concept you recall learning?
I didn't take a math class my last semester of high school (only one semester for senior year, I graduated early) so that would've been something in Algebra II that I retook online during the summer because I didn't do anything my second semester of Junior year after my house caught on fire. I literally don't remember an of the names.

4. What is your favorite Patrick Swayze movie that isn't Point Break?
I haven't seen Point Break, and I was going to say I haven't seen a single Patrick Swayze movie until someone said Donnie Darko. I forgot he was in it. Alas, that doesn't count, so technically... none.
