Matt- I had a look at Pantheon, and love the idea! I already have the story you suggested out at a spec magazine that doesn't take reprints or simultaneous submissions, but I'm am all about 1. death and 2. nature (and I have a tattoo inspired by Artemis). Total Greek pantheon geek. So, yeah. My kind of thing! If I don't have something appropriate and available for Hades, I'm sure I can write something this weekend and submit it. yay!

Cool, thanks Emma. Really looking forward to it!

Also, and I won't put it up on the site until Hades closes, but Q3 will be Poseidon. I can't wait to see submissions for that.

I was just hanging around your site the other night and I really like the concept of the whole thing. I'm hoping to put something together you might like.

Thanks guys. I'm really loving all the support. The site hit a milestone today, it's gotten 1000 hits since its launch. Probably not impressive for most bigger sites that probably get that in an hour, but for a site with NO content, I'd say that's pretty cool. haha

Ahhhhhh, I can't wait for the Poseidon issue. I'm incredibly excited for it and started racking my brain for ideas for it.

I can't wait either. I'm surprised how few Artemis submissions I've received so far. I think it's a bad ass prompt, personally.

I kinda wrote a story that revolves around Poseidon. I feel it's unresolved but the word count restraint of WAR is now lifted and it's going to be told the way it should.

Sweet. Lookin' forward to that, Otis.

Also, Pantheon is now listed under Token markets on Ralan.com, a popular market listing hub for science fiction, fantasy, and horror genre authors, as well as others. Link and info just went up this morning and I have to say, it's already generating quite a bit of traffic.

Check it out HERE

Submissions are CLOSED for Pantheon's Hades issue. There's still plenty of time to submit to the Artemis (#2) issue, though. Hoping to see some more LitReactor submissions!

We couldn't be more excited with the stories selected.

They are:

1. "Hardboiled Hell" by Ryan S. Mooney
2. "The Meantimes" by Gabriel Holt
3. "Soul Kisses" by John T. Biggs
4. "Pitter-Patter" by Querus Abuttu
5. "Heavyweight" by Jason Metz
6. "Harrowing Emily" by Megan Arkenberg
7. "The Book of Seth" by Rebecca Jones-Howe
8. "From The Backs of Four Shop-Rite Bags" by Kevin Winter

Yeah, sorry Jonathan. I got a ton of great submissions. But I'm equally (or even more) excited for the Artemis and Poseidon submissions. I'm a huge nature fan and I'm hoping there's a lot of that going on.

Jonathan Riley's picture
Jonathan Riley from Memphis, Tennessee is reading Flashover by Gordon Highland January 17, 2013 - 10:39am

I don't know anything about Artemis, I know more about Poseidon, I may do research on Artemis, I'm kind of afraid if I start something for that one you'll fill up again before I finish. It takes me forever to get something publish ready. If I think of something good for Artemis I'll give it a shot but I'll probably shoot for Poseidon because Submissions haven't even opened yet  for that one which gives me time to work. Ha.

Pantheon's got a cool new design. Check it out HERE

What do you guys think?

Jonathan Riley's picture
Jonathan Riley from Memphis, Tennessee is reading Flashover by Gordon Highland January 19, 2013 - 9:21pm

I liked the old design. It was elogant without being too flashy. I'd describe it as literary. When I just read your message I was thinking I hope you didn't change too much. Upon looking at it, I believe it is an improvement. The background adds a bit of color and flavor without slapping you in the face and the new format is a little more contemporary than the old. Great job!

Sound's picture

Great, thanks!

Your concern was what I was worried about, too. I liked the old design, and didn't want to go too flashy. Still open for ideas, though.

I can't believe I managed to miss the Hades deadline. Artemis is my homegirl, so plan to see something from me...sometime. Damn WAR, Teleport Us!, CW deadline and work. There is something blossoming in my head, and I will try my gods-damnedest to pluck it this time.

Real quick, there'll be print and e-book versions made available for each quarterly issue. These will, in addition to having all the fiction for that quarter, also have more art and photography specific to each story that will not be found online.

That said:

If you or anyone you know has any art/photography that fits the promts, let them know Pantheon is accepting! :)

Courtney's picture
Courtney from the Midwest is reading Monkey: A Journey to the West and a thousand college textbooks January 26, 2013 - 6:58pm

Hey, Sound, I had a question about the Poseiden issue. I do a lot of ocean-themed stories because of a morbid respect for such an incredibly destructive and life-giving force (and its ability to be a symbol for maternity) so how do I figure out which one to submit when that time rolls around? What kind of parameters should I use to narrow my choices? Does it need a genre bent, or can it be standard literary fiction?

Damnit, man, tell me what to do. I don't like such open options.

Sound's picture
Sound from Azusa, CA is reading Greener Pastures by Michael Wehunt January 26, 2013 - 7:17pm

Haha...I say just send everything you got! For some reason, Duotrope listed Pantheon as not taking multiple submissions, but I don't mind getting several from the same author.

It can be genre bent, or literary fiction. The first issue has a good mix of different stories. Once it goes live, you'll have a better idea of what to send. I guess I'm slightly biased to the horror, fantasy, sci-fi spectrum than literary. Just slightly. I know this isn't exactly the answer you were looking for...but seriously, send anything and everything. :)

Courtney's picture
Courtney from the Midwest is reading Monkey: A Journey to the West and a thousand college textbooks January 26, 2013 - 9:07pm

Ugh. Fine, Sound. I'll continue floundering about, searching for direction.

Kidding.

Duotrope did a great job with Parable's page and they're incredibly easy to contact for updates, so you should email them. Do you have listings anywhere else? We've started casting our net wide, and nearly all of the editors have suggested a new place to me, and submissions roll in in somehow even bigger numbers every time. I don't know exactly where we're listed, but I can try to scrounge up a list if you need some suggestions!

That'd be great. So far just duotrope, writers cafe, and ralan.com. I cant think of any more.

Four fiction previews are up on site now! Four more will drop on March 1st.

Sound's picture

Just popping in to say that the Artemis (#2) issue already has some great fiction lined up, including work from these LitReactor folk you might know:

Renee Asher Pickup

Jason Lairamore (Fritz Wolfe)

I realized Jason was Fritz after coming across his name in the WAR Success thread, which made for a pleasant surprise. Anyway, submit more LitReactor people! There's still room!

Just a month until Hades debuts on the site, and the second batch of previews goes live THIS Friday (03/01), so don't forget to check that out.

AND if you haven't already, Like Us on Facebook. Follow us on Twitter.

Sound,

Is the Artemis deadline over? I looked on your site but can't find anything about the theme or deadline. Am I not looking in the right place?

Sound's picture
Sound from Azusa, CA is reading Greener Pastures by Michael Wehunt February 26, 2013 - 11:42am

No, Artemis is still open for subs. The deadline is until full, or mid June. Whichever comes first. There's still room/time, though. I'll probably take in more on this issue, as the first few have been flash length. The theme info is under Submissions->Open Prompts. Here's a link.

Thanks for the interest Dino!

Jonathan Riley's picture

Actually, it's not likely that I'll make it. I only have about 700 words written. About two scenes and I still don't know the whole story. Only been world building. And I only have two days and have alot of stuff to do. And work. If I do submit anything it might just be a very incomplete story. But I'm going to try to get 1000 words tonight if possible.
