I'm out of the loop. What previews are you referring to?

If I understand correctly, the Hades Issue doesn't go live until March, but he has been putting excerpts from the issue's forthcoming stories to give the audience a taste of the work. I read a couple already and can't wait till that issue goes live so I can read the whole stories.

I hope it's a favorite too, Matt. It's my baby. Lol

Hades goes live April 1st. I put up excerpts of half the stories on the first of each month leading up to the issue ( 4 in feb 1st, and the last 4 on Mar 1st). On top of that I do weekly author previews where I'll throw up a link to another published piece from the contributing authors.

WE...ARE...GROWING!

_________________________________________________

So a couple of exciting things. We are now accepting submissions for content to run in between the quarterly issues. What are we looking for? So glad you asked:

  • Novellas/Serials

Got a novella, or series you're just dying to get out there? Send it to us! We prefer submissions that can be dissected into three, or more pieces. They do not have to be based on the current theme/prompt, but it'd be cool if they were. How much do we pay? $20/novella. I would like to run three novellas at a time, on alternating weeks. This is open to ANY genre you can think of.

Send a synopsis of your novella/serial in your cover letter, as well a 500 - 1000 excerpt of your novella.   There is a submission category now open HERE

  • Movie Reviews

We want quick and dirty movie reviews. Sum up the movie in under 500 words. I'd like to have one or two devoted staff members who love movies, and have great taste. Get as creative as you'd like to get with it. This will be your baby. Sorry, this is a volunteer gig so I can only pay you in my gratitude. And you get a picture on the website with a cool title like "Movie Wizard" underneath it.

  • Book Reviews

Read a lot of books? Have strong opinions that you'd like to share? Consider a book review gig at Pantheon. As with the movie review positions, we'd like to have one or two devoted staff members who love reading, and would be willing to share what they think. Again, as with the Movie Review gig, I can only pay you in gratitude. Lots of it. And a crazy title under your picture.

This content will hopefully begin running after the Hades issue goes live, April 1st. Any questions, PM me, or email me at PantheonMag@Gmail.com.

_Matt

Also -- I was there looking at the prompts. The third issue is Poseidon, correct?

Also, beginning April 19th, Pantheon Magazine will be running a bi-weekly Sci-FI serial by Chris Kelso entitled, "Escaping The Crimson Sphere"

I love the idea of a sci-fi serial, that's so old school -- reminds me of the 50s and 60s writers! Very cool. :)

Thanks, Jess! My vision is to have several serials running simultaneously, each a different genre. Horror, Sci-Fi, literary, noir,  you name it.

A courting of a pack of wild, snarling dogs. Soundless screams from deep within the stone. Love and care at the hands of a boy toward his odd, and curiously disturbing pets. Love that visits once under the shroud of night, and the fog of sleep. Intelligence in the eyes of a million angry, calculating eyes. The importance of choice in a world of oppression, and redemption and justice at the tip of an arrowhead. This and more, in the next batch of stories inspired by the Goddess Artemis:

Eryk Pruitt, “Rather A Nice Finish”
Alexandra Grunberg, “The Goddess”
Renee Asher Pickup, “We’ve Only Just Begun”
Thomas Canfield, “The Covetousness of Trolls”
Jason Lairamore, “Super-Human Condition”
Karen Runge, “The Philosopher”
Carol Shwalberg, “The Midnight Lover”
Dino Parenti, “Beyond The Eye”
Jessica Meddows, “Gravidism”

Son of a Bitch. That's the second time I didn't have time to do my revisions in time to submit the story I wanted to send.

I'll have to write something for Posidein and I'll just have to get it right on the first try.

Good question. Jon and I were emailing earlier and wondering how many gods you've got lined up. I've asked for a noir god, but I ain't holding out hope.

Ryan, Aphrodite is definitely on the horizon. As is Ares, Helios, Apollo, Athena, Hera, Hermes, Demeter, and Hestia. There's more, but I can't think of them. This gives me almost three more years of prompts without repeating. Then I can dig into the more obscure like the titans (Gaia, Cronos, etc.) before I have to repeat.

Dionysus is sure to bring a good slew of interesting stories. He is the god of wine, parties, drunkeness, chaos, madness and drugs.

Otis wrote a badass war story on dionysus. I loved it. He wrote a great one on Poseiden too. Sound I think Otis has a story for every issue. He's great with mythology. Isn't he in your first two already?

Otis is in Hades, not in Artemis. I do remember him saying  he had a poseidon story, though. I'm really psyched for submissions for it. I must've missed his dionysus story.

Why thank you, JR. I have to get down to editing both of those. For some reason I keep putting them off. I'm taking an editing course with Richard Thomas at the end of this month and planning on putting myself into a little bit of an editing hole and get some of these WAR stories moving.

But in the meantime, the Hades issue is coming up and I'm pysched to be a part of the launch. I can't wait to read the other stories in there, as well as check out some of the artwork. They're doing a good job over there at Pantheon rolling teasers out and keeping us intrigued for future issues.

Do you plan on sticking primarily with the Greek/Roman pantheon for Pantheon, then?  You might have answered this elsewhere and I just missed it.  It would make sense, I guess, since the zine's not called Pantheons.

[Damn it, no one has said this yet:] Pretty sure Eros (Cupid) was a god, and the son of Aphrodite (Venus). So it'd probably be redundant to have an Eros issue, but someone could try and work an Eros story into the Aphrodite issue via the family connection.

Guys, the Hades issue has gone live. I figure everyone's busy watching The Walking Dead or Game Of Thrones, or just busy with Easter stuff, so you won't notice it till tomorrow anyway. You can read great fiction HERE, including pieces from fellow LitReactors.
