From the Deorc Enterprise/Dark Expanse forum:
We are happy to announce that we have accepted Alex Kane's story called "Loud, for All the Stars to Hear."
We will be adding Alex's story as a discoverable item within the game at some time in the future.
So it sounds like my story will serve as a kind of in-game Easter Egg.
This makes my geek-self very happy, although it would've been nice to have the story available to the public in some sense. On the bright side, anyone who's ever both (a) wanted to read an Alex Kane story, and (b) master an MMO strategy game set in a galaxy-spanning space opera universe, now has the perfect opportunity.

If you were thinking of reading Staring Into the Abyss, I'm giving away some copies. First, if you LIKE my Facebook page, I'll randomly draw a name and give away one copy. ALSO, I'm giving away THREE copies over at Goodreads. LINKS:
"The stories in STARING INTO THE ABYSS are little literary predators that are smart, savage, and stealthy, with a lethal pounce at the end. Readers who enjoy finely-crafted and genuinely disturbing dark fiction will love Richard Thomas's outstanding collection."
--Lisa Morton, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Monsters in L.A.
"STARING INTO THE ABYSS by Richard Thomas is an outstanding book, a grim tapestry of broken lives and shattered dreams, of dark fantasies and dark reflections. It's one of the better single-author collections I've had the pleasure to read in recent years, and as such, gets my highest recommendation. It's also a fine testament to a talent I suspect we are going to be hearing a lot more from, and soon."

Richard
from St. Louis is reading various anthologiesJune 11, 2013 - 3:04pm
couple reasons, gordon, thanks for asking.
1. we are doing four books a year. i have the four set for 2014, pretty much.
2. we are doing The New Black, first, in early 2014, and it's essentially the same anthology as Exigencies, except it's a sort of "best of" neo-noir, all reprints, from bigger names. so i wanted to space it out.
3. it'll be the first one out of the box in 2015, that's the earliest i could do it for that year.
4. i don't know how long it'll take me to select 20 stories. i've rejected 40 to take 4. i have sixteen slots left. i will take exactly 20. could take weeks, or months. if it takes months, then i need more time. if for example, that takes me up until the end of the year, then it'll really only be a year or so out.
5. it usually takes a minimum of a year to get things set up—book edited, cover art, layout, everything set up with our distributor, ARCs sent out for blurbs, ARCs sent out for reviews, etc.
6. it's not THAT far out, about a year and a half. i talked to ChiZine about Disintegration, Cemetery Dance, too, and they both said it'd probably be 2-3 years out if they took it (neither did). i am editing an anthology for Black Lawrence Press out in late 2014, and that whole thing started with it being 2.5 years out. so, it happens. usually with smaller presses.

That's quite the to-do list queued up. Editing, man, such a different pursuit. I think I'd enjoy the selecting and sequencing of stories, maybe even some of the nuts-n-bolts editorial. It's just that whole dealing-with-writers part of the process that would probably end in a noose over a precariously-balanced chair. haha

I've been posting one chapter a week for the past seven weeks of an ongoing serial called GOD$ FARE NO BETTER. Yes, that's a Cormac McCarthy line with an obnoxious dollar sign injected. GOD$ is a labyrinthine 40-part pulp novel told as a song to a group of extradimensional aliens. John Colandas is a domesticated supercop dealing with life in a small town and the increasing distance between himself and his wife and son. Jaime Sorokolit is murdered under a bridge and subsequently pursued backwards through time by a trio of glowing worms. The Serpent is the world's deadliest hitman, a wraithlike creature that swallows his victims whole. Surrounding these stories is a rogue's gallery of scumbag killers struggling for relevance and redemption in a constantly evolving and unforgiving world. GOD$ is a messy, epically batshit insane puzzle, and it's only going to get more unhinged as we move forward. There are thirty-three parts left to go. This is a constantly evolving experiment, in which there is both an outline and no outline depending on how I feel. It's been tough to balance the overarching plot with making sure every piece works on its own.
Read it here. The posts are in reverse order, unfortunately Wordpress doesn't have an option to show the oldest first, I think.

2. we are doing The New Black, first, in early 2014, and it's essentially the same anthology as Exigencies, except it's a sort of "best of" neo-noir, all reprints, from bigger names. so i wanted to space it out.
3. it'll be the first one out of the box in 2015, that's the earliest i could do it for that year.
4. i don't know how long it'll take me to select 20 stories. i've rejected 40 to take 4. i have sixteen slots left. i will take exactly 20. could take weeks, or months. if it takes months, then i need more time. if for example, that takes me up until the end of the year, then it'll really only be a year or so out.
5. it usually takes a minimum of a year to get things set up—book edited, cover art, layout, everything set up with our distributor, ARCs sent out for blurbs, ARCs sent out for reviews, etc.
6. it's not THAT far out, about a year and a half. i talked to ChiZine about Disintegration, Cemetery Dance, too, and they both said it'd probably be 2-3 years out if they took it (neither did). i am editing an anthology for Black Lawrence Press out in late 2014, and that whole thing started with it being 2.5 years out. so, it happens. usually with smaller presses.
That's quite the to-do list queued up. Editing, man, such a different pursuit. I think I'd enjoy the selecting and sequencing of stories, maybe even some of the nuts-n-bolts editorial. It's just that whole dealing-with-writers part of the process that would probably end in a noose over a precariously-balanced chair. haha
Gordon, would that be Full Ian Curtis as opposed to Full Retard?
(was that bad taste?)
If you're gonna pull an Ian Curtis, best to go Full. But the Grammy® voters tend not to recognize such efforts. Full Hutchence, though, that's award-worthy.
Totally, dude. You go half-Hutchense, you'll ache for two or three days afterwards.
I was checking out Curbside Splendor today and Dark House is an imprint of theirs. That's really cool, i have lots of respect for CS, they have one of my stories right now and i wrote it with them in mind. Anyway, i'm gonna send a story to Dark House too. Good job, sir.
I review Jason Donnelly's Gripped on Revolt Daily. Gripped is coming out from Perfect Edge
http://revoltdaily.org/review-gripped-by-jason-donnelly/
My review of RED MOON by Benjamin Percy is now live at The Nervous Breakdown. Not only one of the best books I've read this year, but one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Awsome you two. I liked both of those stories alot and now that you've placed them I'm going to read them again today. Great job, Em and Gordon.
