From the Deorc Enterprise/Dark Expanse forum:

We are happy to announce that we have accepted Alex Kane's story called "Loud, for All the Stars to Hear."

We will be adding Alex's story as a discoverable item within the game at some time in the future.

So it sounds like my story will serve as a kind of in-game Easter Egg.

This makes my geek-self very happy, although it would've been nice to have the story available to the public in some sense. On the bright side, anyone who's ever both (a) wanted to read an Alex Kane story, and (b) master an MMO strategy game set in a galaxy-spanning space opera universe, now has the perfect opportunity.

Hey everyone,

Book one in my YA series, Camp Myth: Phoenix Watching, is free on Kindle until Friday!

It's already at #28 overall in the Fantasy genre and - with a little luck and a whole lotta downloads - it might just crack the top!

A huge thank you to anyone who gives it a download!

Great read, Howie (as always). Thanks for the heads up!

@Renee and Dino: Oh he has a book out alright—the first in a series, actually. Dude’s got an App for it and everything. Don't know how he finds the time, but Third Eye Games caught wind of CM, too, and created a RPG out of it. Cool stuff. And hey keep an eye out for a character in there if you do decide to read Camp Myth #1 by the name of Natious The Cyclopean Sharpshooter—created by Yours Truly! More on him here

The Home Site is a great resource, actually, for all things Camp Myth. That's where I go to stay in the loop. Just head here, and I know Chris posts updates on facebook as well.

By the way, I have a New Story out in the latest issue of Bête Noire—A Werewolf Story of Sorts That Involves a Messy, Messy Wedding ;)

Bête Noire #11 features my story “Cajun Coyote”—Out Now In Paperback. The Amazon listing says it’s not available yet for some reason, but I’m told if you click “Add to Wish List,” that’ll get the ball rolling on the order. Otherwise, Bête Noire Is Selling The New Issue Directly Through Their Website here

Exciting stuff. Thank you everyone for the continued support. Martin Garrity and I have some cool announcements related to Solarcide coming as well since the 2nd anniversary is right around the corner. Stay tuned and thanks again.

If you were thinking of reading Staring Into the Abyss, I'm giving away some copies. First, if you LIKE my Facebook page, I'll randomly draw a name and give away one copy. ALSO, I'm giving away THREE copies over at Goodreads. LINKS:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/richardgthomas3

Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/54302-staring-into-the-abyss

BLURBS:

"The stories in STARING INTO THE ABYSS are little literary predators that are smart, savage, and stealthy, with a lethal pounce at the end. Readers who enjoy finely-crafted and genuinely disturbing dark fiction will love Richard Thomas's outstanding collection."
--Lisa Morton, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Monsters in L.A.

"STARING INTO THE ABYSS by Richard Thomas is an outstanding book, a grim tapestry of broken lives and shattered dreams, of dark fantasies and dark reflections. It's one of the better single-author collections I've had the pleasure to read in recent years, and as such, gets my highest recommendation. It's also a fine testament to a talent I suspect we are going to be hearing a lot more from, and soon."
--Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Turtle Boy, and Kin.

For fans of urination and striped bass: my short story "Pissing for Rockfish" is up at Juked.

Now rest assured, if some random, faceless, internet dude boasting his latest infinitesimal writing achievement isn't enough of an allure for you to read the aforementioned story, you can always start with the one from Stephen Graham Jones. Because his is of course definitely rad.

@Em: Thunderdome should come through. I've heard good things. @RMS: Hey thanks for the link to "Deathtrap Whirpool" from SGJ. I wasn't aware of that one—have read older ones from him there. Found an archive listing for some of those here, actually.

Also, one of our guest authors at Solarcide, Kathryn Soverane aka Terasa Skultety had a cool little story featured Juked called "Antares Lariat." That one got a good response.

Cool Side Note about SGJ: I wrote "Cajun Coyote" in one of his classes 2 Christmases ago—my story that just went on sale this week in Bête Noire #11. RT had some good feedback for me on it, too, funny enough, in its final workshop stages. Yeah I've recieved a great response to that one. Might do more with the character.

Thanks again for the "Deathtrap Whirpool" link! I enjoyed "Pissing for Rockfish."

Cool Update: The Amazon listing for Bête Noire #11 is Now Active as of just a couple of days ago. The Issue is Solid Quality, too, as always with those guys—more like a thin graphic novel than an actual magazine and the stories featured in this one deliver. My story as previously mentioned is “Cajun Coyote.” A nice Southern twist on the Werewolf mythology ;)

Cool things happening right now at Solarcide as well—We turn 2 this year!! Check out more on that here, where we're featuring a Short Story Spotlight and Interview with Stephen Graham Jones. Should mention that involves a great signed book give-away. More spotlights and updates to follow very soon...

2015 on the anthology … why so long? I mean, I know all the usual "why books take forever to publish" reasons, but what's up in this case? Just sayin', would make a nice Christmas gift.

Richard's picture
Richard from St. Louis is reading various anthologies June 11, 2013 - 3:04pm

couple reasons, gordon, thanks for asking.

1. we are doing four books a year. i have the four set for 2014, pretty much.

2. we are doing The New Black, first, in early 2014, and it's essentially the same anthology as Exigencies, except it's a sort of "best of" neo-noir, all reprints, from bigger names. so i wanted to space it out.

3. it'll be the first one out of the box in 2015, that's the earliest i could do it for that year.

4. i don't know how long it'll take me to select 20 stories. i've rejected 40 to take 4. i have sixteen slots left. i will take exactly 20. could take weeks, or months. if it takes months, then i need more time. if for example, that takes me up until the end of the year, then it'll really only be a year or so out.

5. it usually takes a minimum of a year to get things set up—book edited, cover art, layout, everything set up with our distributor, ARCs sent out for blurbs, ARCs sent out for reviews, etc.

6. it's not THAT far out, about a year and a half. i talked to ChiZine about Disintegration, Cemetery Dance, too, and they both said it'd probably be 2-3 years out if they took it (neither did). i am editing an anthology for Black Lawrence Press out in late 2014, and that whole thing started with it being 2.5 years out. so, it happens. usually with smaller presses.

Gordon Highland's picture

That's quite the to-do list queued up. Editing, man, such a different pursuit. I think I'd enjoy the selecting and sequencing of stories, maybe even some of the nuts-n-bolts editorial. It's just that whole dealing-with-writers part of the process that would probably end in a noose over a precariously-balanced chair. haha

I've been posting one chapter a week for the past seven weeks of an ongoing serial called GOD$ FARE NO BETTER. Yes, that's a Cormac McCarthy line with an obnoxious dollar sign injected. GOD$ is a labyrinthine 40-part pulp novel told as a song to a group of extradimensional aliens. John Colandas is a domesticated supercop dealing with life in a small town and the increasing distance between himself and his wife and son. Jaime Sorokolit is murdered under a bridge and subsequently pursued backwards through time by a trio of glowing worms. The Serpent is the world's deadliest hitman, a wraithlike creature that swallows his victims whole. Surrounding these stories is a rogue's gallery of scumbag killers struggling for relevance and redemption in a constantly evolving and unforgiving world. GOD$ is a messy, epically batshit insane puzzle, and it's only going to get more unhinged as we move forward. There are thirty-three parts left to go. This is a constantly evolving experiment, in which there is both an outline and no outline depending on how I feel. It's been tough to balance the overarching plot with making sure every piece works on its own.

Read it here. The posts are in reverse order, unfortunately Wordpress doesn't have an option to show the oldest first, I think.
