"Subtext at the OK Corral" was recently posted at Untoward. It's a story so short that it can be read in the time it takes to mate. In fact, if one were so inclined, he/she could even read it while engaged in said mating. So go ahead and give it a shot.
Later, gators.

I have a lot of news to share over the next couple of months, starting with My New Story “The Urge’s Eternal Victory,” which is featured in Dark Eclipse #21 (Dark Moon Books)—Available Now through Barnes & Noble and Amazonfor Only $1.99.
My story follows a pyromaniac who seeks to avenge his sexually abused wife. To sum it all up, “The Urge’s Eternal Victory” is disturbing, tragic, and action-packed.
Dark Moon Books has released a lot of great magazines and anthologies featuring such names as Jack Ketchum and Laura Benedict, and also some familiar names from LitReactor, including Richard Thomas in the Slices of Flesh anthology, and W.P. Johnson in Dark Eclipse #18.
Here’s #21 featuring my story.
Wanted to say Thank You to everyone for the continued support. Between my stories and Solarcide, I’m grateful and I very much appreciated the strong response to my story in Thuglit #3 back in January. Thuglit #4 is out now, by the way, and doesn’t disappoint.

STARING INTO THE ABYSS releases today! Whatever help you can offer, I'd really appreciate it.
"The stories in STARING INTO THE ABYSS are little literary predators that are smart, savage, and stealthy, with a lethal pounce at the end. Readers who enjoy finely-crafted and genuinely disturbing dark fiction will love Richard Thomas's outstanding collection."
—Lisa Morton, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Monsters in L.A.
"STARING INTO THE ABYSS by Richard Thomas is an outstanding book, a grim tapestry of broken lives and shattered dreams, of dark fantasies and dark reflections. It's one of the better single-author collections I've had the pleasure to read in recent years, and as such, gets my highest recommendation. It's also a fine testament to a talent I suspect we are going to be hearing a lot more from, and soon."
—Kealan Patrick Burke, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Turtle Boy, and Kin.
"With STARING INTO THE ABYSS, Richard Thomas takes you on a ride into a world of darkness and despair, punches you in the gut, and leaves you breathless. You'll hug your psyche a little tighter after reading."
—Damien Walters Grintalis, author of Ink
"STARING INTO THE ABYSS is gritty and ugly, seductive and sexy. Inside these filthy walls you will find everything you've ever feared you'd become; thugs, drunks, cons, prostitutes, murderers. Think of these pages as a mirror of what anyone--even you--can become, after just a few critical mistakes in life. Richard Thomas has proven time and again that he is one of the rising stars in the neo-noir culture. With Staring into the Abyss, he proves he has mastered it."
—Max Booth III, author of True Stories Told By a Liar and Black Cadillacs
"NO ONE DOES IT like Richard Thomas. Dark and disturbing, his unique blend of horror and noir digs its way into your psyche and leaves you begging for more."
—C. W. LaSart, author of Ad Nauseam

After several rounds of minor edits, Bill Snee at the team of Dark Expanse, an MMO strategy game, has accepted my short story, "Loud, for All the Stars to Hear." This marks my third fiction sale at professional rates, and my first time writing for a video game property--something I could definitely get used to! I'll post a link if and when the story goes public. (There's a slight possibility that it'll be published as an in-gameplay text, meaning you'd have to play the game to read it, but I'm thinking/hoping they'll use it in the Game Bible instead.)

Congratulations, Alex! That’s so cool. Don’t know if you’re acquainted with Chris Lewis Carter at all, but he’s worked on a video game—the writing end of it and he has some very interesting stories. Good for you, man. Definitely post an update if “Loud, for All the Stars to Hear” ends up with a link.
Some exciting news for me as well—My story “Dog Killer” earned me a place among the Top 5 Winners of the Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Awards for their Crime category. The announcement comes in the latest issue of Writer’s Digest (May/June 2013) on page 48—out now at any Barnes&Noble or major bookstore.
Probably the coolest part about this for me is the fact that “Dog Killer” used to be one of my problem children. I wrote the original/rough draft in the Talking Scars class that Jack Ketchum taught at the Cult in late 2010, submitted to Dark Discoveries shortly after, where it was tied up for a year and half until 2012—I had made the final round there, too, but no cigar—so I revisited the story and entered the final draft into the annual Popular Fiction Awards.
Couldn’t be more excited. A few peers have read the story over time, both here at LitReactor and at the Cult so I owe a big thanks because I very much appreciated the input. I also have a story coming out in a couple of weeks in Bête Noire #11—one of my favorites. More on that soon…
And thanks to everyone who checked out this month's story at Solarcide from J.S. Watts—we received some great feedback on that one and we’re thrilled that readers seem to take to it.

Big news! I'm running a small press now. We'll be focusing on neo-noir, speculative fiction. Social media, website, and guidelines to come. I hope to see lots of submissions from you all, for the anthology and longer work as well.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: We're happy to announce that award winning author Richard Thomas (Transubstantiate, Staring in the Abyss, Herniated Roots) will be Editor-in-Chief of our new speculative fiction, neo-noir imprint Dark House Press. DHP's first book will be THE NEW BLACK, an anthology featuring the best of 'new noir', edited by Richard, coming out Spring 2014. DHP will then publish the first in a three part sci-fi trilogy JOSHUA CITY in October 2014. There will be a few more 2014 projects TBD. Visit the DHP page to keep up to date on its progress, submission process, and more. More soon.

Cool, I'm expecting my copy on Wednesday. Not much into the eBooks.

^^cool, congrats, alex. how did you even get into that niche, never even heard of doing that. in other words, let me know if they need more stories! (yes, i'm a whore. but i used to just be a slut :-)
Nathan, that is so freaking awesome! That Jack Ketchum class has really produced some sweet stuff. Keep up the good work!
Alex and nathan, that's awesome! Congrats gents!
Thanks so much, Dino! I do appreciate it. @Tony: Nice to hear from you, man! You’re absolutely right—a lot of good material came out that one. I still remember some of yours. CLC’s “Kill Screen” came out of that class, too.
SO MUCH COOL SHIT IN THIS THREAD!
Congrats to everyone!
My latest article in my Does This Sex Column Make My Ass Look Fat? series takes a look at what happens when Cosmpolitan magazine starts giving advice on BDSM...
I like your column. Nice job, Renee!
Thanks, Gordon!
Big news! I'm running a small press now. We'll be focusing on neo-noir, speculative fiction. Social media, website, and guidelines to come. I hope to see lots of submissions from you all, for the anthology and longer work as well.
