I guess I could have put this in the official whoring thread but then wouldn't that mean I'd be calling my grandma a whore?

Now this is NOT my book, but my grandmother's book. It's about her life, her loves, her youth during WW2, and it's not prolly most of y'all cup of tea, but I suppose it doesn't hurt to say it.

But I am, in fact, the one who translated it into English and published it through Amazon so she can see it published while she's still alive. She's going to be 84 soon and she still chops wood in the little mountain town where she lives, in Romania (where they still chop wood).

So all I want to be able to tell her is that there were a few (or a ton!) of people who bought her book. If you are kind enough to get it on Kindle (it's cheap!), maybe I can tell her I didn't completely fail her even if it wasn't made into a movie yet.

That's all...

Very interesting. Sounds like a fun project for you, will look great on the C.V., and with extra sentimental bonus! When I have cleared a few things off my reading list, this might have to squeeze it's way in.

Hey, thank you all for not saying I'm lame and thanks for the support! I love my grandma... She used to be a dancer and an acrobat back in the day and she's still cool.

Very cool. Just bought it, and if I have time, I may be the first to review it! Reminds me of a favorite read, A New Home - Who Will Follow? by Caroline Matilda Kirkland...

Very cool that you did this for your Me-Maw!

Bump! (just because it's the weekend and maybe a few more people will see it). But I promise I won't become a nag, and I won't really punch anyone.

Hey, looked at some of your old posts after your coming out today and saw this thread, bought the book and I guess just that fact bumps the thread, read some of the beginning in the peek section and I think I am going to enjoy this when it slots into my reading schedule. I think I would like to see some popular quotes from the main text because I've known a few Hungarian and Romainians that have fascinating stories.

Thanks fport and Ian! Well my grandma's style is not exactly like my own, so as I was translating it I had to find some compromise. I guess in light of "my big news," I'll add here a quote from the book that kind of always makes me teary eyed:

"I never truly lost my hope, my trust in people. Perhaps that was my flaw, but I will never truly know. How can I look back and glean at what my destiny would have been, had I been a different kind of person? Love brought me to my knees, but I always crawled over the walls put in front of me and I made love my weapon, coming out fighting in the end ... How can I say that I would have learned as much as I did about the precious m eaning of life, in every tiny aspect, in every fleeting beauty, if things had been easy for me?"

By the way, conspiracy theories are big in Romania, so when my grandmother learned about my problem, she said "I think the doctors told you it's cancer, but it's not. They just want to make money off of you. You should drink lots of herbal teas" (list of many herbal teas followed).
