How are you and yours doing (If you want/need to talk about your life use this question)?

What are you reading? How is it?

What are you writing, editing, etc? How is that going?

What uncommon writing tools, websites (besides Litreactor), and what not are you using? How/are they helping?

What other things/entertainment are you into? How are they?

Do you have any other creative projects?

Why aren't you getting more done (in general, not this very second)?

Is that just an excuse?

Really?

Are you planning on doing NaNO this year?

Anything you want to share?

Feel free to ask me a reasonable question(s), I just won't answer my own if you repeat them back or re-word them.

And I'll ask myself a reasonable question. Why didn't you do an August monthly interrogation thread?

Because fuck you, that's why.

How are you and yours doing (If you want/need to talk about your life use this question)?

Meh, stuff. I'm getting over a stomach bug as I type this. I don't like them.

What are you reading? How is it?

I'm still technically on Fahrenheit 451, but I'm not actually "reading" it these days. Not doing it for me.

What are you writing, editing, etc? How is that going?

Same ol', great, pushing forward.

What uncommon writing tools, websites (besides Litreactor), and what not are you using? How/are they helping?

None.

What other are/entertainment are you into? How are they?

Shit, absolutely nothing right now.

Do you have any other creative projects?

Nope.

Why aren't you getting more done (in general, not this very second)?

Because it comes slow when I'm not "inspired" and all that.

Is that just an excuse?

No I'm still trudging ahead.

Really?

Yeeeees!

Are you planning on doing NaNO this year?

The hell's that?

Anything you want to share?

Once you throw up you'll feel better soon. Some sooner than others.

Feel free to ask me a reasonable question(s), I just won't answer my own if you repeat them back or re-word them.

Do you have any pets?

Gordon Highland's picture
Gordon Highland from Kansas City is reading Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore September 10, 2015 - 1:41pm

How are you and yours doing? Been sick all week, and it's no fun. Short week, though, which helps.

What are you reading? How is it? It's soooo good to be reading again after a very long hiatus. Secondhand Souls by Christopher Moore. It's the sequel to one of my favorite novels. Pretty good, but more importantly at the moment, it's lighter than most fare on my shelf. After that, I'll be ready to dig into New Yorked, then maybe Skullcrack City

What are you writing, editing, etc? Nothing creative. Website content, shit like that. Editing lots of videos, but that's always been the day job.

What other things/entertainment are you into? I marathoned Narcos over vacation; that was excellent television. Discovering some new sounds on Apple Music during its free trial. The Aristocrats are my latest favorite band. They're a trio supergroup, virtuosos with a great sense of musical humor. Cannot wait for NFL football to begin (only sport I really follow), while trying to tune out all the attendand fantasy noise I could not care less about.

Do you have any other creative projects? Why, yes! My new solo album Finding the Light was just released yesterday (CD, download, streaming). I didn't mention it in Whoring, because that felt tacky and nonliterary, and I've been choking Facebook with it lately … but I'd greatly appreciate if LitReactors would give it a buy and a listen. Otherwise, still producing weekly episodes of Important Question? Podcast.

Why aren't you getting more done? This has been the most productive and focused year of my creative life, certainly with the least sleep. Only way I could get more done is if television quality took a sudden nosedive.

Is that just an excuse? Well, sure, but creative energy is like a bucket of sand that the creator and others are constantly dipping from, and that bucket needs frequent replenishing.

Are you planning on doing NaNO this year? Have never and will never. The act of binge-writing elimimates my primary joy in the process, which is the crafting of quality phrases and sentences. If there was ever a month-long outlining contest, however, that would be a good use of my time. Nail down all the plotting so I could spend the next couple of years making it sing.

Anything you want to share? A bottle of tequila with Liz Gillies.

Feel free to ask me a reasonable question. Would you marry your cousin?

How are you and yours doing? Tired after a long day in the massage mines. Grateful I don't have to work in an actual mine.

What are you reading? How is it? Skagboys by Irvine Welsh. I'm not far in yet, but I'm loving it. I really enjoy reading the Scottish vernacular in his work.

What are you writing, editing, etc? How is that going? I'm working on a short bit of narrative non-fiction (I believe that is the correct term) about saving the life of a hooker who was choking on a piece of meat. I always have fun telling people that story, so I was hoping I could write something that others might find interesting to read. It's going slow, like everything I write.

What uncommon writing tools, websites (besides Litreactor), and what not are you using? How/are they helping?  I am in a meditation group led by a Zen Buddhist monk who used to teach writing courses at a college in Burlington, VT. He suggested a book called Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg to help me get started. Apparantly it integrates Zen philosophy into the instruction and exercises. I haven't picked it up yet, but I'm excited to try it out.

What other things/entertainment are you into? How are they? I outfitted the back of my van with sleeping accommodations this summer. Due to the way my work is scheduled, I have a three day weekend every week. I like to drive around the state and find unusual and interesting things to do or see and just sleep in my vehicle wherever I end up. It's fucking great.

Do you have any other creative projects? Just writing at the moment. I used to collect animal skulls and had some really great specimens. I had two Scottish highland cattle skulls, complete with the long horns, and tons of other animals from elk and moose down to beaver and fox and even a bird and a bat.(You'd be amazed how many people will save dead things for you once they know you want them.)  I moved recently and I gave my entire collection away to two artist friends. All I have now is a tiny kitten skull. I'll probably hang on to that one.

Why aren't you getting more done (in general, not this very second)? Because I'm fine with what I do get done.

Are you planning on doing NaNO this year? NaNo? Nah, no.

Anything you want to share? I'm a newb. I'm excited to be here. Please don't beat that enthusiasm out of me.

Feel free to ask me a reasonable question(s), I just won't answer my own if you repeat them back or re-word them.  What time do you go to bed at night, and what time do you get up in the morning? Do you use an alarm clock? What's the nicest thing you can say about yourself? Do you keep an updated resume/CV? Have you ever been mugged? Who was the last person you hugged?

Would you marry your cousin? I answered here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=5&v=_ZNjV_1cy7k

What time do you go to bed at night, and what time do you get up in the morning? About 11PM and 6:15 am.

Do you use an alarm clock? Everyday.

What's the nicest thing you can say about yourself? I don't know.

Do you keep an updated resume/CV? Yeah, but not diligently.

Have you ever been mugged? No.

Who was the last person you hugged? A friend.

Good to hear that your family tree will continue to fork, D. (Nor would I marry mine, for the record, but the conversation can get dull when we agree too much, so someone's gotta play the heel.)

How are you and yours doing (If you want/need to talk about your life use this question)?

Meh, same as I have been for last two years. Paddling to keep my head just above the waves.

What are you reading? How is it?

Gawd, who has time? Seriously. I have a stack of 5 books by my bed including a graphic novel by Brian K. Vaughn, a Sherman Alexie short story collection plus a William Gibson e-book on this computer. Zero time to delve into any of them.

What are you writing, editing, etc? How is that going?

These days? Endlessly re-writing emails begging people to read my stuff on Amazon KDP and review it. I'm sure some of my friends are ready to set up spam blockers for my email address by now.

What uncommon writing tools, websites (besides Litreactor), and what not are you using? How/are they helping?

I've watched way too many How To Market Your Book videos on Youtube. All those bleached teeth, all those popped polo shirt collars ... they boggle the mind. I miss Sham-Wow.

What other things/entertainment are you into? How are they?

Mindlessly watching tasty cable TV shows like The Strain and Ray Donovan.

Do you have any other creative projects?

Still need to create a cover in Photoshop for several of my short stories I'm going to dump on KDP.

Why aren't you getting more done (in general, not this very second)?

My day job went from 40 hours a week to about 5 a month ago so I'm back on the job hunting merry-go-round.

Is that just an excuse?

Only if I don't want to live in a cardboard box.

Anything you want to share?

Yeah, will you review my book? ;P

How are you and yours doing (If you want/need to talk about your life use this question)?

Busy as all hell. I'm at the tail-end of writing a novel. The S.O. is doing her school thing. And the pups...well, they still have it pretty easy.

What are you reading? How is it?

The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray. The review will be up on the 17th.

What are you writing, editing, etc? How is that going?

A novel called 366 and a collection called Vanity. Both are around 80% done.

What uncommon writing tools, websites (besides Litreactor), and what not are you using? How/are they helping?

A vape...so I don't get up every hour to smoke. Keeps my ass in the chair.

What other things/entertainment are you into? How are they?

We just killed Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. It was really fucking good.

Do you have any other creative projects?

An upcoming podcast ;)

Why aren't you getting more done (in general, not this very second)?

My time is in high demand.

Is that just an excuse?

No.

Really?

Okay, yes.

Are you planning on doing NaNO this year?

Hell no. I couldn't handle editing a novel that was crapped out that quickly for the sake of time.

Anything you want to share?

Sometimes I wonder what those people who use "ur" instead of "your" and "you're" do with all that time they saved.

What's the nicest thing you can say about yourself? Once when it really mattered I acted like a hero for a few minutes.

Here is a picture of her barking at a ditch that flooded into a stream.

Do you have any pets? Yes! Sorry, I missed this, I love talking about my dog. I have a Great Pyrenees mix called Dutchess. I love her very much, and if you don't die nameless.
