How is the new year going for those of you on the Gregorian Calendar? If you aren't, what system of time are you using?  Really using, no need for time jokes we've all heard them enough.

What are you reading and how is it?

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into and how is it?

What are you writing? How is that going?

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Is that just an excuse?

Really?

How are things in the rest of your life?

Anything you think we should know?

yeah, okay I guess

What are you reading and how is it?

I have a load of new books I'm excited to start, but right now I'm rereading Penny Dreadful. It's beautiful and dark and twisted.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into and how is it?

Rewatching GoT, which is epic. Listening to Carry on the Grudge by Jamie T and Ultraviolence by Lana Del Rey.

What are you writing? How is that going?

I'm trying to rework and polish a few stories, finish another and figure out where I'm going with my novella. Honestly it's not going well, I have too much on my mind at the moment :(

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Life.

Is that just an excuse?

Its not an excuse as such, but I should probably try harder.

Really?

I guess :(

How are things in the rest of your life?

*shrugs, looks at floor*

Anything you think we should know?

Spielberg is making a reboot of Gremlins. Just: Why?

Gremlins reboot is happening? What the hell's wrong with just doing a sequel?

If they use CGI instead of puppets/animatronics, I will issue a strong condemnation.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Is that just an excuse?

no, i'm still making progress

Really?

yyyyep

Anything you think we should know?

that french cartoonist charlie guy who was killed also made offensive comics poking fun at the pope, israel, and so-called "far" right french politicians.

So far, so good, except I'm a little put out that I can't think of a good time joke right now.

What are you reading and how is it?

I'm reading some reference books about mermaids because I thought it would be fun to do a group of flash stories about them. But nah, I don't really care about mermaids, come to find out. Except maybe if I kinda turned them upside down and did something with women who had fish faces and regular ladyparts. But that would be wrong.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into and how is it?

Eh, I mostly just goof off online.

What are you writing? How is that going?

My imagination seems to be taking a break so I'm working on nonfiction. I just finished a book, "Writing Flash Fiction," but I've probably already spammed enough about it for now.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Because a moderator on another board just told me to quit. :(

Is that just an excuse?

Yes. He is not the boss of me.

Really?

Hmm. I weirdly kinda like that.

How are things in the rest of your life?

Lovely because I'm spending the whole month in south Florida.

Anything you think we should know?

Yes. Conch tastes like rubberbands, whether in conch fritters (with boom boom sauce!) or conch chowder.

@JYH - yeah, it's definitely a reboot rather than sequel. It's crazy that there are so many good books out there, yet all Hollywood can think to do is make remakes or long after sequels (Goonies 2 is also happening) I really wish they would leave my childhood nostalgia alone.

^

That would require some originality. Hollywood doesn't have much of that.

Well if you were going to bet 50 or a 100 million on a movie would you put it on Die Hard or something new?

Dwayne, what do you mean by bet? Like an investment in a movie or a bet on how sucessful something is going to be? Or something else entirely?

Just getting to this now. Better late than never!

How is the new year going for those of you on the Gregorian Calendar? If you aren't what system of time are you using?  Really using, not need for time jokes we've all heard them enough.

It's going well, writing more, reading as much, and I started working out again, which feels great. It's amazing, but working out really helps me creatively. After burning myself out till I'm sore and exhausted, my anxiety's way down, and the words come more easily.

What are you reading and how is it?

I'm reading All the Beautiful Sinners by Stephen Graham Jones. It's freaking awesome. Jones is one of my favorites right now. The man knows how to write, and twist.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into and how is it?

Been really into Shameless (US, haven't watched the UK), and it's really great! If you haven't watched it, I recommend it. I think it's written really well, and the characters! Ahh, that's what's so great, the characters are sooo good, and their development. It's a crazy thing when you find yourself feeling sorry for Frank Gallagher.

What are you writing? How is that going?

Just finished Richard Thomas' Short Story Mechanics class, and I'm currently working on the story that came out of it, about teleportation and loss. It's going really well, I'm really stoked to finish it, but keeping the word count down is super hard, though worth it. I already have the name for it, I think. I'm thinking Somewhere Else.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

In general, no reason, just figuring the pieces out, figuring out how to trim down each scene. This very second though (yes I AM going to answer that part too) is because I'm at work, on ten-minute break before the kids' recess. Ten minutes isn't long enough for me to sink into the writing process. Editing though.

Is that just an excuse?

Maybe.

Really?

I'm just one big excuse.

How are things in the rest of your life?

Same as ever, only not. Hectic, but that's just life.

Anything you think we should know?

I am the egg man.

Redd Tramp's picture

Aside from the whole Paul is dead, walrus symbolism thing, I heard that someone told John Lennon that school kids were analyzing Beatles' lyrics for deep philosophical meaning, and he kind of just wanted to shit on that and write a nonsense song. And that's where I Am the Walrus came from.

Or else Paul McCartney is really dead and it's all some gigantic conspiracy.

voodoo_em's picture
voodoo_em from England is reading All the books by Ira Levin January 23, 2015 - 2:53am

Oh there are tons of Paul is dead clues across various Beatles album covers and songs. They're pretty cool to find. Nothing like owning your own conspiracy, right ;)

Redd Tramp's picture

Seriously, tons of them. I mean, it can't all be coincidence. So either the Beatles, having caught wind of the conspiracy, decided to have a bit of fun, or Paul died in a car crash and was replaced by a look-alike to avoid public chaos.

Have you seen The Last Testament Of George Harrison? My friend said it blew his mind.

voodoo_em's picture

No. Just the old regular Beatles movies they used to make.

Haha those movies were so goofy!

But supposedly they have a voice recording of George Harrison when he thought he was about to die, and he admitted Paul was dead. Haven't seen it, so I'm super skeptical, but it sounds sort of interesting.

How is the new year going for those of you on the Gregorian Calendar? If you aren't, what system of time are you using?  Really using, no need for time jokes we've all heard them enough.

My days are regulated by how cold it gets at night and by the sun and the birds to wake up at 6 am. I'm not big on time, never were. So here where I get a chance to ignore it I don't use time

What are you reading and how is it?

I finished a really clever, funny book by Jonatan Safran Foer called Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. That was because I was stuck in a cross-atlantic plane. Other than that I'm having trouble finding pirate copies of the books I want for my kindle.

What other music, shows, movies, or various media are you into and how is it?

I mix instrumental beats with global hiphop and rap on my roof terrace till I'm hoarse. I'm actively working on a social media suicide because I hate Facebook, the only thing I watch anymore is during meals and it's always Vice News.

What are you writing? How is that going?
I'm revising my way through a long-haul ass project that began in poetry and shortstories more than a decade ago.
This project was what swamped my effectivity in the first place, so I'm also doing my best to write glimpses into a Fantasy project I'm building. (Very inspired by GoT, how can you not be.)
On the side of that I'm revising half a dozen short stories while working my way through Chuck's essays.

Why aren't you getting more done with it (in general, not this very second)?

Let me defend myself and first say that I'm getting more done than ever. People have asked me that for many years though. All you can do is keep pushing to excel.

Is that just an excuse?

No, although I could definitely do more on sending material for potential publishing.

How are things in the rest of your life?

Just trying to live every day like Biggie Smalls.

Anything you think we should know?
I'm buying a motorcycle today and tomorrow I'm running down a 4000 meter vulcano. So well if I don't relpy it's probably because my Biggie Smalls lifestyle got to me before I learned to wear a helmet
