Let's face it. The Ipad type of tablet will one day likely replace laptops and home computers. What are you currently using to write with on your IPad and what do you hope to see in the future as better programs/apps are released?

nah. i see it as something that will help me workshop, since im someone who currently prints out stories (longer than say four pages) and scribbles on them, making notes in margins and crossing shit out. for some reason i am uncomfortable doing this at my desk, and staring at this screen, but i think doing it on something that would give me that comfortable feeling would make my editing and workshopping more effective for people, and quicker for me.

I might buy a Kindle Fire eventually. I'm not sure what it is though, maybe exactly like other tablets?

Can't write no book on an iPad.  It's got no fuckin' keys, yo!

Blog posts are ideal for the iPad. I've gotten used to typing on the on-screen keyboard. Anything serious I either take out the bluetooth keyboard or whip out my MacBook.

There are a couple of Apps on the iPad that compliment the Apps on a MacBook. iWriter, for instance. The future is bright.

BUMP.

I'm a cheap bastard, so I'm looking for a portable writing device(s) that I can use to bang out text, and it just seems to me that the iPad will work, with some limitations, of course. Paired with a bluetooth keyboard, a slew of apps out there, excellent battery life, super portable, less expensive than the Macbook Air, where can I go wrong with this thing? I'm sure editing is a bitch, but I wrote this entire paragraph and fixed the typos without reaching for my mouse one single time. I guess I'm old school like that. Major editing would be done on my iMac anyway.

Anyone out there banging out some high word counts using an iPad? Thoughts?

Well, if you're a cheap bastard, then netbooks are cheaper than iPads and come with keyboards.

However, if I owned an iPad, I would be very tempted by this real keyboard (though it costs about as much as an iPad):

EDIT: Looked further into the keyboard. It's a USB keyboard, so it'll work with any computer. You can buy a conversion kit, so if you have a typewriter, for $79 you can convert it. Or you can buy a custom typewriter from these people for $700. The typewriter is not damaged, so if you can find ink, you can still use it like a normal typewriter, using paper. The carriage return works as a Return/Enter button.

You can buy a blu-tooth keyboard and a nexus 7 (I have a nexus 7 and it's awesome).  I do all my writing on a netbook and I love it.  It's the perfect size for me (I got used to the smaller keyboard).  A mouse is a must have for me, and at the cheaper cost of a netbook, I don't care if it only lasts a few years.  (This one has been used every day, almost all day, for 2 years - no problems at all.)

I've thought about trying to write on one, because right now I'm still stuck at pen and paper.

I did it. iPad 2 with the ZAGG keyboard case, pretty sweet set up. Downloaded IA writer app, and will probably get Pages. I'm updating the to OS6 right now, but so far it seems like it's going to work for exactly what I want it to work for. YAY!

One must learn how to capitalize the first letter of a sentence when using any bluetooth keyboard with an iPad, even Apple's bluetooth keyboard. Not too difficult, since I've been writing in forums for years.

I use the My Writing Spot app on the IPad. Of course I transfer everything over to a Word Doc if I have to send it. The Ipad is just so much more portable than anything else I have. My cell phone is too small. This is what works for me though.

I'm using Pages, and IA Writer. Both work fine. I'm really hoping Scrivener gets their app done soonish. If they can make it work, and make it work right, it will be the greatest writing app ever, maybe. Probably. Don't hold your breath. I'm really liking this set up though. So, so portable. The Zagg keyboard case in the deal.

I love my iPad for  checking email quick and reading, but I don't use it to craft stories or to critique others on litreactor.  it doesn't have all the functions it needs yet. Plus you do kind of have to hunt and peck a bit.  I use mine like a big blackberry and use the laptop to seriously write and critique. But I also like editing ,y own stories by printing them and carrying them around, cir ling things etc.Im old school I guess.
