The year is nearly over - thank God.

So here is my monthly (and really, only) contribution to the community.  The getting to know you thread where we can all check in, learn a little, laugh a little, sometimes cry a little (remember that one time?), and bond over list of questions.

If you're a lurker, a new member, an old member, a werewolf, an astronaut, or just a person who is reading this thread, take a minute to answer these questions, read other people's answers, and set my mind at ease that as of this day, you are not dead.

So, awesome...

1. Are you alive?

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about?

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for?

4. What's your favorite soup?

5. Tell me a joke.

6. Who inspires you?

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time?

9. Do you like your name?

10. Really?

1. Are you alive?

Yes

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about?

I think my mother's birthday, my girlfriend's and one of my nieces, but I can't remember. I can only remember my birthday and my brother's, so I will ask in a stealthy kind of way.

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for?.

Lots. Dad's tumor is now just sitting still, better than growing. I have a great family, lots of friends, a good job, way too much to name. WAY too much

4. What's your favorite soup?

Chicken noodle

5. Tell me a joke.

Why did the hipster burn his tongue? He ate the pizza before it was cool. BOOM!

6. Who inspires you?

Everyone in my life. Including you weirdos

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well.

Meeting up with the family, having dinner at my Uncle's lake house, side/weird note, his name IS Lake. So we're all going to my Uncle Lake's lake house. Tell me that didn't blow your mind?

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time?

I don't sleep in. I actually can't remember a time where I slept more than six or seven hours. Too much work to do

9. Do you like your name?

Yes. It's a strong WASPy name.

10. Really?

Um, yeah.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about?

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for?

4. What's your favorite soup? I once made a kickass coconut curry chicken and rice. But, for a standby, favorite must be some hearty tomato.

5. Tell me a joke.

6. Who inspires you? Different people.

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. Food & Football.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? Maybe 13 hours, once when sick. Not sure. 10-or-more is rare for me, even when sick.

9. Do you like your name? First - no. Second and last - yes. Initials - yes.

10. Really? I was not lying at that particular time.

It would seem that way...

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about?
Marlo Thomas

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for?
I'm thankful our Thanksgiving is over and done with at the beginning of October.

4. What's your favorite soup?
Borscht or this soup I can't get anymore due to the restaurant that invented it being shut down, tomato bisque with cheese dumplings. i know it sounds easy to replicate, but there must have been crack cocaine in it for how often I still crave it.

5. Tell me a joke.
A man walks into a doctors office, visibly upset. "Doctor!" He says. "Please help me, I don't know what's wrong. One minute, I'm a teepee, the next, I'm a wigwam, i'm a teepee, I'm a wigwam, teepee, wigwam, teepee, wigwam, TEEPEE, WIGWAM..." The doctor interrupts him suddenly and shouts "MY GOD MAN, CALM DOWN! You're two tents!"
(That one's better if you hear it rather than read it.)

6. Who inspires you?
Adam West.

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well.
I look forward to THE FUTURE.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time?
Probably about 2 hours.

@Profunda - I like your joke.  I'll repeat that.  And yeah, you did sort of stutter, I didn't want to mention.

@JY That soup sounds good - the kickass one, not the regular one.

1. Are you alive? I hope so. I'd be pissed if all this is straight out of a cheesy 80s movie.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about? I'm probably going to get engaged unless anyone feels compelled to talk me out of it.

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for? I'm thankful to my 7th grade teacher who tought me how to type so quickly. It makes writing easier.

4. What's your favorite soup? My three day old chilli. Mmmm, boy.

5. Tell me a joke. LOOK A TALKING MUFFIN!

6. Who inspires you? The author of whatever book I'm reading at the moment. Of course, they could always inspire me to never write like they do too.

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. I"m still waiting for someone talk me out of proposing. 8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? 16 hours...yeah pretty sure 16 hours. I slept 12 last night.

9. Do you like your name? It'll do.

10. Really? I mean, I wouldn't use it for the name of a dynamic character in a novel, but I don't think I'd use a pen name either.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about? Nope.

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for? So much. My son, mostly.

4. What's your favorite soup? A taco soup made with either ground beef/turkey/chicken or soy and a Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe I got from Suzy Vitello. Sister be knowing her soup.

5. Tell me a joke. For those of you who missed it on my facebook newsfeed: What do you call a woman who wants to be a man? An underachiever.

6. Who inspires you? Dian Fossey, Lidia Yuknavitch, and Glenn Gould

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. Oh, fuck, so much! Daylight savings time, and an extra hour in bed earned for good behaviour, the long weekend for Remembrance Day, that my boss purchased a company helicopter and my travel time is about to be reduced by a third, getting at least two more chapters of my memoir started...

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? 23 hours, post 3 day LSD binge.

9. Do you like your name? I DO! But it's "and-dray-uh", not "AND-ree-ah." AND-ree-uh actually upsets me, but I only correct people if I plan on having them scream my name or whisper it in my ear. ON-dree-uh is the worst for me. Just call me Dre or Drea, ok?

10. Really? I know, right?

Are you alive? Slowly but surely stepping away from the light.  Who am I kidding, slowly pulling myself out of Hell.

November? 2 first time published.

Thankful for? My girls and the guy I am using for sex to get over my ex.  Very, very thankful.

Soup? Chicken noodle, but not that Progresso crap that thinks it can get all fancy by adding celery.

Joke? A chicken and egg are lying in a bed. The egg is sitting up smoking a cigarette looking awfully smug. The chicken is glaring at the egg from across the bed. Finally the chicken blurts out, "At least we know the answer to That question!"

Who inspires you? Right now I am without inspiration.

Thanksgiving related thing? FOOD! Pineapple casserole, twice baked garlic cream cheese potatoes, the green bean casserole with the crispy onions on top, turkey, and last but usually eaten first, pumpkin pie!

Longest sleep? Depends if you mean metaphorically or literally. Literally, I'd say a good 24 hours.

Do you like your name? I hate my name.

Really? Really! It's Stacy, Barbie's redhead friend, Malibu Stacy. On a side note my last car was a Malibu.

4. What's your favorite soup? Cheesy potato soup..mmmmmmmmmmmmm

5. Tell me a joke. No.

6. Who inspires you? Everyday life, nature.

9. Do you like your name? Nope, it blows. It's soooo common. My saving grace is that my mom spelled it "Mathew" so not only do I have to live with everyone sharing my name, I have to deal with them saying, "Hey, your name's spelled wrong."

Pineapple casserole ~ can be a dessert or a side, it's awesome like that.

1/2 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 4 eggs, 5 slices white bread, 1 20oz can of crushed pineapple, cinnamon

1. Preheat oven to 350

2. Cream butter and sugar and then beat in the eggs one at a time, add cinnamon to taste.

3. Cut up white bread and drain pineapple and add the mixture to a greased medium size casserole dish.

Bake until its bubbly and golden brown.   Usually about an hour.

It is crazy good! Super fattening and I suggest making more than one because I haven't met a person that doesn't love it. The brown burny parts are the best. :-)

1. Are you alive? Barely. Had a bitch of a week.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about? Oh, just about everyone I know. Fucking Scorpios, I'm always surrounded by them. My Mum, my sister, every secretary I've ever had, my psychotic, stalker ex, my ex bestie/ex long term lover, two of my closest female friends, special mention to La Emme Nikita as one of the nice Scorpios!

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for? My health. It was shocking a year ago, and it's been pretty awesome this year. My partner, even though we've been living in and out of tiny hotels and studios and been doing each other's heads in for the past couple of weeks. My family, even though they're on the other side of the world.

4. What's your favorite soup? Lentil soup, yummmy :D

5. Tell me a joke. Oh man, I suck at telling jokes. Can I tell a bad couple I heard at a gig when the guitarist broke a string and was changing them? The lead singer got up and told cheese jokes. Here you go:

What sort of cheese is not your cheese? Nacho cheese!

What sort of cheese do you use when you need a bear? Camembert!

Told you they were bad.

6. Who inspires you?  I've had a bad week so I'm not feeling particularly inspired to be honest. I'll re-visit this one later.

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. Thanksgiving is a new concept to me as an Australian, and it was celebrated last month in Canada. Um, I've got Disneyland this weekend, that should be pretty cool, I've never been before.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? 18 hours is the last long sleep I remember. I did a juice detox last year, and had mexican as my first solid meal. Not clever, I think my system went into shock and shut down.

9. Do you like your name? Yeah. I prefer people I like calling me Jess though. If it's someone I don't like, or haven't taken an immediate shine to, I prefer Jessica.

10. Really? Yeah. I'm pretty honest!

9. Do you like your name? Yes. It is quite common but it is a good name. I like my first name, my middle name, and my last name. But, due to my name being so common, I use a pseudonym...(pseudonym is combination of my grandmothers' maiden names).

10. Really? Yes, really. When I was younger I didn't like my middle name (Dale), but then the rise of NASCAR made it a cool name...

1. Are you alive? Not sure. Lately people keep cutting in front of me or bumping into me. Maybe I'm a ghost. A ghost with internet access.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about? Nope. November is a boring month at my house.

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for? My family.

4. What's your favorite soup? Chili. Does that count as a soup?

5. Tell me a joke. Nah. I always screw up the punch line.

6. Who inspires you? This week--Robert Olen Butler. I keep rereading one of his books.

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. Four days in a row away from my job.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? Probably ten hours or so.

9. Do you like your name? No. It's uncommon enough that I get really pissed off when I meet another Meredith and I automatically despise her.

10. Really? Yeah, it's my name dammit!! I don't want to share. Plus all Merediths are psycho or bitchy. Just watch these movies: Disclosure, The Parent Trap (remake), The Family Stone, Prometheus. Case closed.

1. Are you alive? Not any  more or less than usual.

2. Any November birthdays, anniversaries, or any date you think we should know about? My name day is the 15th, and I'm accepting cash and hugs. Neil Gaiman's is the 10th.

3. I know what I'm thankful for...but what do you have to be thankful for? I'm thankful that despite the fact that I am utterly broke and have been depression's personal punching bag for the last several months, I'm pretty fucking lucky to be able to hang out with my dogs and write (or not write) all day. I'm physically healthy, I have food, and I have a small but goddamn amazing group of friends and family who keep me propped up when I start to fall over.

4. What's your favorite soup? vegetarian French onion

5. Tell me a joke. My puppy's sleeping on my lap and she just farted.

6. Who inspires you? Audrey Hepburn, Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer, my sister

7. Thanksgiving related thing you are looking forward to - if you don't celebrate that day...just tell me something you're looking forward to this month.  I don't know.  I didn't plan this very well. I make the world's best cranberry sauce, and will make gallons of it this year. I hope to do what I did last year, which is the weekend after Thanksgiving have friends over for thanksgiving food and D&D.

8. What is the longest you have slept at one time? 46 hours, jetlagged on my first trip to Europe when I was 12. I fell asleep face down on a croissant in a Zurich cafe and woke up 2 days later in my sister's flat.

9. Do you like your name? No. It's very Anglo and very boring and I've never met another Emily I liked. I go by Emma (unless you don't know me well, or I don't like you), and I work using my grandmother's family name.

10. Really? Really. I can't complain too much, though. My hubble processed a claim for a veteran once whose name was Harry P. Ecker.
